GURUGRAM — Gurugram Cyber Crime Cell has arrested a couple accused of defrauding approximately ₹2 crore of buyers through an elaborate OLX-based scheme involving high-end SUVs. The couple, Jagmeet Singh (alias Suraj Lamba), 40, and Amrita Kaur, 38, were apprehended at their upscale Palm Hills Society flat after months of operation, officials confirmed  .

Luxury Listings, Empty Promises

According to ACP Priyanshu Dewan (Cyber), the duo scoured OLX listings for luxury SUVs like Toyota Fortuners. They would secretly contact genuine sellers, pay a small deposit to have ads temporarily removed, then re-advertise vehicles as if they were the owners. Prospective buyers were shown cars and defrauded of token booking amounts, sometimes more, even though the vehicles were never theirs  .

One victim, seeking a Fortuner, paid a ₹50,000 advance in April before the fraud emerged. Over three years, the couple is believed to have netted at least ₹15 lakh, though newer reports suggest the total may exceed ₹2 crore. The ill-got gains funded a lavish lifestyle: a ₹50,000/month condominium and gold purchases later sold in Delhi for cash.

Repeat Offenders Under Scrutiny

Investigation revealed Jagmeet’s past includes at least six prior cyber‑fraud cases, with convictions in Bhondsi and Jalandhar jails for previous SUV scams  . Amrita took charge of creating deceptive ads and handling communications. The police are probing deeper, seeking accomplices and tracing recovered funds. Both have been remanded to police custody for initial questioning  .

ACP Dewan urged the public to exercise caution on resale platforms: “Always verify vehicle ownership and prefer in-person inspections. Never transfer funds until documentation is confirmed.”
