Vigilance officials raided the Lucknow residence of retired Assistant Regional Transport Officer Lalit Kumar in connection with a disproportionate assets case and recovered cash, gold, silver, jewellery and property documents allegedly worth several crores.
The raid was conducted at Kumar’s C-143 residence in Chandralok Colony, Aliganj, on July 7 and 8 after officials obtained a search warrant from the court. The action continued for nearly 26 hours and was carried out by the Lucknow sector team of the Vigilance Establishment.
Cash and Jewellery Found During Search
During the search, officials recovered around ₹1.62 crore in cash, allegedly hidden in packets at different places inside the house.
The team also found a large quantity of gold and silver biscuits and jewellery. According to the information available, around 13 kg of gold and nearly 9 kg of silver were recovered during the raid.
The gold and silver were evaluated by a government-approved valuer. The seized valuables, including gold, silver and diamond jewellery, are estimated to be worth around ₹20 crore.
Property Papers and Investments Under Scrutiny
Vigilance officials also found documents related to 15 properties, including houses, flats, plots and agricultural land.
The property documents reportedly relate to several locations in Lucknow, including Aliganj, Vrindavan Yojana, Ismailganj, Mohanlalganj and Balaganj. Documents connected to two flats in Noida and land in Barabanki and Raebareli were also recovered.
The estimated value of the immovable properties is said to be around ₹13 crore. Officials also found documents related to investments of more than ₹1 crore in banks, post offices, mutual funds and fixed deposits.
Disproportionate Assets Probe Continues
During the raid, the team also found a Toyota Innova, a Hyundai i20, a revolver and evidence of heavy spending on home decor and expensive household items.
A case had been registered against Lalit Kumar under the Prevention of Corruption Act after an investigation by the UP Vigilance Establishment. The search was conducted after officials found evidence of alleged disproportionate assets during the inquiry.
According to the Vigilance Establishment, all recovered assets and investments are being verified and included in the investigation. The Director General of Police and Director, Vigilance Establishment, has announced a reward of ₹1 lakh for the Lucknow sector team involved in the operation.
