Srinagar: Police in Srinagar have launched a crackdown on online secessionist content that officials say was aimed at disturbing peace and order, with a case registered against certain individuals for allegedly circulating separatist propaganda on digital and social media platforms.

Digital Platforms Under Watch

Officials said Srinagar Police acted on credible inputs about the circulation and dissemination of videos across digital and social media platforms. According to the police statement, the content allegedly promoted separatist ideology, spread false information and was intended to incite unlawful activities prejudicial to the peace, sovereignty and integrity of India.

A preliminary enquiry indicated that the circulation of such material was a deliberate attempt to propagate separatist and secessionist narratives through digital platforms. Police said such activities had the potential to incite public disaffection, disturb public order and undermine national integration.

Case Registered Under BNS Provisions

The police said the available information prima facie disclosed the commission of cognizable offences punishable under Sections 152, 196(1), and 353(1)(b), (c), and (2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. Accordingly, FIR No. 11/2026 has been registered at Cyber Police Station Srinagar under the cited provisions.

Investigation has been taken up in the matter. Police also advised the general public to refrain from creating, sharing or circulating unlawful content on social media and other digital platforms.

Police Warn of Strict Action

In its statement, the police said any individual found involved in such activities would be dealt with strictly in accordance with law.

The Jammu and Kashmir Police and security forces have been carrying out aggressive anti-terrorist operations targeting the wider support system of terror, including terrorists, overground workers and sympathisers. Drug smugglers and those involved in hawala money rackets are also under the scanner of security forces, as officials believe funds generated through such unlawful activities are used to sustain terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir.
