Sambhal: An Interpol Red Corner Notice has reportedly been issued against international gangster Sharik Satha in connection with the violence that broke out in Sambhal on November 24, 2024, during a survey of the Jama Masjid-Harihar Temple dispute site. The development is expected to strengthen efforts to trace the accused, who is allegedly hiding in Dubai, and bring him back to India to face legal proceedings.

According to police, Satha has been declared a proclaimed offender by a court and has remained outside the country for an extended period. Uttar Pradesh Police had prepared a detailed dossier covering his criminal cases and shared it with the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), which subsequently approached Interpol for international action.

With the Red Corner Notice now issued, law enforcement agencies can seek assistance from authorities in other countries to locate and provisionally arrest the accused, subject to applicable legal procedures in the concerned jurisdiction.

Accused Allegedly Living in Dubai

Police have alleged that Satha is currently residing in Dubai. Investigators have been attempting to establish his whereabouts and trace his movements outside India.

The accused is also alleged to have left India using a forged passport. Police are examining the circumstances surrounding his departure and the documents allegedly used to travel abroad.

Investigators have also gathered information regarding the international movements of members of Satha’s family, particularly their alleged travel to and from Dubai. These details are being examined as part of the wider investigation into his overseas presence.

CBI Approached Interpol With Police Dossier

The international action followed the preparation of a dossier by Uttar Pradesh Police containing details of the criminal cases registered against Satha, his identity particulars and information required for tracing him abroad.

The dossier was submitted to the CBI, which coordinates Interpol-related requests in India. Based on the information provided by the state police, the CBI approached Interpol seeking issuance of a Red Corner Notice.

The notice is intended to alert law enforcement agencies in member countries that the individual is wanted by Indian authorities for prosecution. Any arrest or subsequent transfer to India would, however, be governed by the legal procedures of the country where the accused is located.

Long Criminal Record Under Investigation

Police records reportedly show that Satha has been named in around 55 to 60 criminal cases. His alleged involvement extends beyond the Sambhal violence case, with investigators examining his wider criminal history and activities.

The November 24, 2024 violence occurred during a court-ordered survey of the Jama Masjid in Sambhal amid a dispute over claims regarding the site. The violence resulted in deaths and injuries and led to a major police investigation.

Satha has been identified by investigators as one of the key accused whose presence outside India had complicated efforts to bring him before the court.

Property Already Attached

Police action against Satha has also extended to his assets in India. On January 21, authorities reportedly attached property in the Deepa Sarai area in which he had a share.

The property action was part of measures being taken against the accused after he was declared a proclaimed offender.

Investigators are now expected to coordinate further action based on the Interpol notice and information received from foreign agencies regarding his location.

Focus Now on Bringing Him Back

The issuance of the Red Corner Notice marks a significant step in the international pursuit of Satha. Police will now seek cooperation from the relevant foreign authorities to establish his exact location and initiate proceedings for his detention and eventual return to India.

The process could involve multiple legal stages depending on the country where he is located and the applicable extradition or deportation framework.

For investigators, the immediate priority is to verify Satha’s current whereabouts, establish the circumstances under which he allegedly travelled abroad and gather evidence required for proceedings in the cases registered against him.

The Red Corner Notice does not itself constitute an international arrest warrant. It is a request to law enforcement agencies worldwide to locate and provisionally detain a wanted person, subject to the laws of the country concerned.
