A Lucknow jeweller was allegedly cheated of gold jewellery worth ₹4.42 crore and ₹20 lakh in cash.
Chowk Police in Lucknow have registered an FIR against the three accused who handed the jeweller four copper bricks while claiming they were made of gold, and launched an investigation to trace them.
Accused Claimed Bricks Were Received From Army
According to the complaint, the accused approached the jeweller with a story that a widowed relative of one of them had received four gold bricks from the Army and wanted to sell them.
The alleged fraud began around one-and-a-half months ago when one of the accused, identified as Ajay Chaudhary, a resident of Rohtak, visited the jeweller’s shop in Lucknow.
Chaudhary allegedly told the jeweller that his widowed relative was in possession of four gold bricks received from the Army. The accused later showed the bricks to the jeweller and claimed that they were made of gold.
Believing their claim, the jeweller allegedly agreed to proceed with the transaction.

₹4.42 Crore Jewellery and ₹20 Lakh Cash Handed Over
As part of the transaction, the jeweller allegedly handed over gold jewellery worth ₹4.42 crore to the accused. The men also allegedly took ₹20 lakh in cash from him.
According to the complaint, the four bricks together weighed around 2,861 grams. The jeweller subsequently decided to have the bricks examined to determine whether they were genuine.
The examination allegedly revealed that the bricks were made of copper rather than gold. The jeweller then approached the police and lodged a complaint over the alleged fraud.
The case centres on allegations that the accused gained the jeweller’s confidence by presenting the bricks as genuine gold and used that representation to obtain valuable jewellery and cash.
Police Register FIR, Hunt for Three Accused
Following the complaint, Chowk Police registered an FIR against all three accused, police said. An investigation has been launched into the alleged fraud. Police are now trying to trace and apprehend the accused.
The case remains under investigation, with police efforts focused on locating the three men named in connection with the alleged transaction.
