The Centre for Police Technology (CPT) is building a multidisciplinary professional community with a focused mission — bringing policing experience, technology, research, innovation and industry expertise together to contribute towards a safer and more secure India.
The initiative aims to establish an integrated platform connecting serving and retired Police and Law Enforcement Agency (LEA) officers, cybercrime investigators, corporate investigators, cybersecurity professionals, cyber and fraud-risk specialists, digital and physical forensic experts, intelligence practitioners, researchers, academicians, technology experts, physical-security professionals, developers, innovators and startups.
Rather than becoming another conventional professional network, CPT envisages a practitioner-led knowledge, research and innovation ecosystem. Members will be encouraged to contribute according to their professional capabilities, operational exposure, experience, skills and areas of interest.
Experienced professionals may associate as volunteers, mentors, researchers, trainers, advisors, solution developers, collaborators or domain experts. Based on their expertise and experience, distinguished professionals may also be invited to lead or co-lead one of CPT’s 10 specialised verticals.
Technology-Enabled Policing @360° — The 10 CPT Verticals
CPT’s proposed framework covers ten interconnected domains representing the evolving requirements of policing, investigation and public safety worldwide:
1. AI & Emerging Technologies — Artificial Intelligence, analytics, drones, robotics, biometrics, smart sensors and emerging policing technologies.
2. Cybersecurity & Digital Policing — Cybercrime prevention and response, cyber threat intelligence, online safety, digital policing and critical-infrastructure security.
3. Investigation & Forensics — Digital, mobile, cloud, multimedia, financial, cryptocurrency and physical forensics and technology-enabled investigations.
4. Law & Order & Public Safety — Situational awareness, intelligence-led policing, crowd and event management, traffic management and smart public-safety technologies.
5. Disaster Management & Emergency Response — Early-warning systems, crisis coordination, emergency communications, search and rescue, drones and technology-enabled disaster response.
6. Crime Prevention & Detection — Crime analytics, risk mapping, behavioural analysis, organised crime, trafficking, financial crime and technology-assisted crime detection.
7. Collaboration & Coordination — Police-industry-academia partnerships, inter-agency cooperation, international collaboration, information sharing and knowledge exchange.
8. Capacity Building & Training — Cyber ranges, simulation exercises, investigation workshops, professional training, leadership development and continuous skill enhancement.
9. Cyber Risk, Fraud Risk & Compliance — Cyber and fraud-risk management, financial intelligence, privacy, regulatory compliance, insider risk and institutional resilience.
10. Research, Analysis & Policy Support — Emerging-crime research, horizon scanning, technology assessment, policy studies, innovation, pilots and development of policing solutions.
Connecting Those Who Understand the Problem With Those Who Can Build the Solution
A central objective of CPT is to bridge the gap between professionals who understand real policing and security problems and professionals capable of developing technological solutions to address them.
A police investigator may understand an operational challenge but may not have direct access to researchers, engineers or developers capable of translating that requirement into technology. Similarly, a technology startup may possess an innovative product but lack exposure to actual field-level policing requirements.
CPT intends to become the bridge between these communities.
The platform will encourage practitioners to identify problems and work with researchers, academia, forensic specialists, corporate investigators, technologists, developers and startups to conduct research, develop proof-of-concepts, evaluate technologies, undertake pilots and create deployable solutions.
Encouraging Indigenous PoliceTech, DefenceTech and SecurityTech
The CPT initiative will also provide a collaborative environment for startups and developers working in PoliceTech, DefenceTech, SecurityTech, CyberTech, ForensicTech, AI, drones, robotics, surveillance, communications, intelligence, emergency response and investigative technologies.
The objective is to enable innovators to better understand operational requirements while giving police and security practitioners greater exposure to emerging technologies.
Over time, this practitioner-developer interaction can contribute towards a stronger ecosystem for indigenous policing and national-security technology, where solutions emerge from real operational problems rather than technology being developed in isolation from field requirements.
Experience After Service Can Continue to Serve the Nation
CPT particularly recognises the enormous reservoir of institutional knowledge possessed by retired Police and LEA officers, investigators, forensic professionals, scientists, engineers and security practitioners.
Years of field experience need not disappear after retirement or transition from public service. CPT seeks to provide a platform through which such professionals can continue contributing their experience through mentoring, research, training, advisory inputs, case studies, technology evaluation and capacity building.
Even professionals who can contribute only limited time may participate voluntarily in a vertical closely aligned with their expertise.
One Integrated Community for a Safer India
Modern security challenges increasingly cross traditional boundaries. Cybercrime can become financial fraud; AI can enable impersonation and deepfakes; drones can become both policing tools and security threats; digital evidence can determine physical-crime investigations; and disasters increasingly require technology-driven coordination.
Addressing these challenges requires collaboration beyond any single profession or institution.
CPT therefore proposes an integrated community connecting practitioners, Police and LEAs, corporate investigators, forensic experts, physical-security professionals, cyber specialists, researchers, academia, technology companies and startups.
The initiative will also encourage national and international knowledge exchange, allowing professionals to learn from evolving policing practices and technologies worldwide while providing a platform to showcase Indian expertise and indigenous innovation.
