Bengaluru: Two days after IPS officer Vartika Katiyar was transferred following her complaint against senior officer D Roopa Moudgil, the Karnataka government has now moved Moudgil out of the Internal Security Division (ISD).
Moudgil, who was serving as the Inspector General of Police (IGP) at the ISD, has been reassigned as the Managing Director of the Karnataka Silk Marketing Board Limited. The transfer order for the 2000-batch IPS officer comes in the wake of allegations leveled by Katiyar on February 20 this year.
Katiyar had accused Moudgil of using police personnel to plant confidential documents related to other departments in her office chamber. According to her complaint, on September 6, 2024, Head Constable Manjunath T S and Home Guard Mallikarjun allegedly entered her office under Moudgil’s instructions and placed certain files there. They also took photographs of the documents, which were later circulated on WhatsApp. Katiyar further alleged that Moudgil used this incident to intimidate her and threatened to submit a negative annual performance report against her.
Following her complaint, Katiyar was transferred earlier this week. Now, the Karnataka government has also shifted Moudgil, reassigning her to a non-policing role. The controversy has raised questions about internal disputes within the state’s police force, with officials yet to comment on whether further action will be taken.
The incident highlights growing tensions within Karnataka’s law enforcement ranks, as allegations of misconduct and internal conflicts come under scrutiny. Further developments in the case are awaited.
