MUMBAI: Veteran cybersecurity leader Burgess Sam Cooper has announced his new role as Chief Executive Officer of Adani Enterprises Limited’s newly launched Operational Technology (OT) Cybersecurity business. This marks a significant shift for Cooper, who leaves behind a decade-long tenure at Ernst & Young (EY) India, where he served as Partner for Cybersecurity Consulting.

Cooper made the announcement via LinkedIn, sharing personal reflections on his career and ambitions for the future. His move signals Adani Group’s growing focus on securing critical infrastructure amid increasing cyber threats to industrial systems.

A Journey from CISO to CEO

Burgess’s career spans nearly 30 years, with leadership roles in globally recognized organizations like HSBC, Vodafone, and EY. Before joining EY in 2015, he held positions as Chief Information Security Officer (CISO) and Chief Technology and Security Officer in leading telecom and financial service firms.

Reflecting on his decade at EY, Cooper described it as a period of deep learning, growth, and collaboration. He thanked his colleagues, clients, and peers for their support throughout his journey.

“Stepping into EY as a Consulting Partner after leading cybersecurity as a CISO was a defining moment. The past decade has been fulfilling — full of learning, growth, and partnerships I deeply value,” he shared.

Building a Cybersecurity Powerhouse at Adani

Cooper’s new role is not just a career milestone but a strategic move by Adani Group to address the growing need for OT cybersecurity in India and globally. Operational Technology refers to systems that manage industrial processes in sectors like energy, transport, and manufacturing — all of which are core to Adani’s operations.

As industries digitalize rapidly, the risk of cyberattacks on power grids, factories, and transportation systems is on the rise. Adani’s OT Cybersecurity division aims to protect these critical infrastructures by offering specialized services to both internal entities and external clients.

“We are building a world-class OT cybersecurity services company, headquartered in India, designed to serve large-scale industries,” Cooper stated. “The foundation is strong; the vision is clear – and the momentum is real.”

A Strategic Vision for India’s Cyber Defense

The launch of this new cybersecurity division comes at a time when India’s infrastructure is becoming more interconnected and vulnerable. Cooper’s appointment reflects Adani’s commitment to not only growing its business but also safeguarding the technological backbone that supports it.

Adani Group, known for its ventures in energy, transport, logistics, and infrastructure, is now extending its reach into technology with a focus on cybersecurity. This expansion aligns with national and global priorities to strengthen defenses against sophisticated cyber threats.

A Career Built on Expertise and Trust

Burgess Sam Cooper is recognized as one of India’s foremost cybersecurity professionals. His expertise spans enterprise risk management, computer forensics, disaster recovery, and vulnerability assessment. He was honored with the CISO 100 title for three consecutive years from 2011 to 2013.

He holds a BE in Telecommunications from Bharati Vidyapeeth University and an MBA from Jamnalal Bajaj College of Management.

As he embarks on this new role, Cooper expressed gratitude for the trust placed in him by Adani’s leadership and confidence in the team driving the mission.

“To my peers, friends, and partners in the cybersecurity and infrastructure ecosystem — I look forward to your continued support as we build something truly meaningful.”
