Kaithal: Haryana Police’s Special Detective Unit (SDU) has busted an alleged interstate drug trafficking network and seized approximately 1,928.100 kg of poppy husk (doda post) valued at around ₹3 crore. During the operation, police impounded a truck and an escorting Hyundai Creta SUV and arrested six accused. Officials said a case has been registered under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, and further investigation is underway.

According to police, the operation was carried out at around 2 a.m. on Monday near Sind village along the Delhi–Katra National Highway. The SDU had received specific intelligence that a white Creta SUV, followed by a truck carrying suspected narcotics, would pass through the area. Acting on the information, police set up a checkpoint and attempted to intercept both vehicles. Investigators said the truck driver allegedly tried to flee but was unable to escape due to traffic behind the vehicle, allowing police to surround and detain both vehicles.

During the search, officers discovered a specially designed concealed compartment inside the truck. According to investigators, a hidden access door had been constructed behind the driver’s seat and covered with iron scrap to avoid detection during routine inspections. Police alleged that 1,928.100 kg of poppy husk was concealed inside this secret compartment and recovered during the operation.

Preliminary investigation indicates that the contraband was allegedly procured in Madhya Pradesh and was being transported to Samana in Punjab. Police said all six arrested individuals are residents of Punjab. The accused publicly identified by investigators include Ravi Kumar, Naresh alias Neshi, Sukhwinder Singh alias Bindu, and Gurjant, while the roles of the remaining arrested individuals are also being examined. Authorities allege that the suspects have been involved in narcotics trafficking for a considerable period.

Investigators are now analysing the seized truck, the Creta SUV, mobile phones, digital devices, call detail records, bank accounts and financial transactions linked to the accused. Officials said the investigation aims to identify other individuals connected to the alleged trafficking network, trace the supply chain, and determine who financed, organised and facilitated the transportation and distribution of the narcotics.

Experts note that investigations into interstate narcotics trafficking typically involve detailed analysis of transportation routes, financial transactions, mobile communications, digital evidence and logistics networks. Hidden compartments, forged transport documentation and escort vehicles are commonly examined as possible indicators of organised trafficking operations. Investigators often rely on financial trails and digital forensic evidence to identify the wider criminal network and establish the movement of contraband and illicit proceeds.

Police said all the accused are being questioned. Further legal action under the NDPS Act will be based on the evidence collected during the investigation, including the seized contraband, digital evidence, financial records and other material. Authorities added that if the probe establishes links to additional traffickers, interstate networks or financial facilitators, appropriate action will be taken in accordance with the law.
