Artificial intelligence company Anthropic has raised $65 billion in a new funding round that values the Claude maker at $965 billion, placing it on the verge of a trillion dollar valuation and reinforcing its position as one of the most prominent players in the fast expanding AI sector.

Enterprise Focus Drives New Valuation

Anthropic said the latest fundraising reflects strong demand for its products and will help it remain at the research frontier while expanding Claude into more workplaces. Chief financial officer Krishna Rao said the funding would support the company in serving what he described as historic demand and broaden the reach of its AI tools.

The new valuation places Anthropic ahead of OpenAI, which was valued at $852 billion in March, according to the report. Anthropic has built its business by concentrating on generative AI for enterprise clients rather than general users, a strategy that has helped it stand out in an increasingly crowded market.

The fundraising round confirms Anthropic’s emergence as one of the most significant companies in the AI industry at a time when competition for capital, scale and market position is intensifying.

Backers and Cloud Commitments Expand Reach

The round was led by major Silicon Valley venture capital firms Altimeter Capital, Dragoneer, Greenoaks and Sequoia Capital. It also included $15 billion in previously committed investments from cloud giants, including $5 billion from Amazon.

Anthropic said Claude is now the first frontier AI model available across all three of the world’s largest cloud platforms, Amazon Web Services, Google Cloud and Microsoft Azure. That cross platform presence is likely to strengthen its reach among enterprise customers and broaden its commercial footprint.

The funding announcement underlines how strategic cloud partnerships are increasingly central to the AI business, not only as a source of investment but also as a route to large scale deployment.

IPO Expectations and Wider Market Race

The company’s near trillion dollar valuation comes ahead of an expected initial public offering. The report said Anthropic is aiming to go public as early as this year, a step that would place it among the most closely watched listings in the technology sector.

The announcement also arrives amid a broader race among leading AI and technology firms for scale and investor attention. Elon Musk’s SpaceX, which absorbed his AI company xAI in February, could see shares begin trading as early as June 12 while targeting a valuation of about $1.75 trillion.

Anthropic’s latest raise therefore not only marks a significant milestone for the company itself, but also reflects the extraordinary pace at which valuation benchmarks are being redrawn across the global artificial intelligence market.
