Munger (Bihar): The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has taken major action in Bihar’s Munger district in connection with an alleged digital job and investment fraud case. The ED’s Patna Zonal Office conducted searches at five different locations linked to the case on Thursday. The operation was carried out at premises associated with a private music company operating in Jamalpur and nearby areas. The searches were initiated under Section 17 of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA).
According to the investigation agency, the case is related to an alleged scheme in which people were lured to invest money through promises of digital employment opportunities and high returns. The company allegedly attracted investors by assuring them of doubling their investment, earning money from home, and receiving regular monthly income.
During the preliminary investigation, it was found that investors were offered a digital job-based scheme. They were allegedly told that by investing ₹2,56,500 in the company, they would be assigned the task of watching 4,800 audio and video files on the company’s website every month. In return, they were promised earnings of around ₹15,000 per month along with additional bonuses for higher engagement.
The investigation also revealed that the company allegedly introduced a referral-based incentive system to expand its network. Investors were reportedly encouraged to bring in more people with promises of attractive rewards, including bikes and cars. Through this model, a large number of individuals were allegedly persuaded to invest money in the scheme.
However, after receiving investments, the company allegedly made changes to its website and software system. According to the ED’s findings, a software engineer associated with the company allegedly slowed down the website, making it difficult for investors to complete the required target of watching 4,800 audio and video files every month.
ED officials stated that due to the alleged technical changes, several investors were unable to fulfil the company’s conditions and consequently faced difficulties in receiving payments. The agency is investigating whether the website manipulation was deliberately carried out to prevent investors from meeting the criteria and to retain the collected funds.
An FIR was registered in the case on November 18, 2024, at Munger Police Station under Sections 316(2), 318(4), and 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita (BNS), 2023. After the police investigation, a chargesheet has also been filed in the matter. The ED is now examining the alleged proceeds of crime, banking transactions, assets, and other financial activities linked to the case.
During the searches, the ED has started examining documents, digital devices, and other records recovered from the premises. The agency is trying to determine the total amount collected through the alleged investment scheme, the movement of funds, and the individuals involved in the suspected network.
With a rise in cases involving online investment fraud and fake earning schemes, investigating agencies have increased scrutiny of such networks. Experts have repeatedly warned that promises of quick profits, guaranteed returns, and easy income opportunities are often used as tactics in financial frauds. The ongoing ED action in Munger is part of an investigation into the alleged financial network and money trail behind the digital investment scheme.
