Noida Police have registered an FIR after the husband of TV anchor Rubika Liyaquat alleged that she has been receiving repeated threat calls from unknown mobile numbers for nearly a month. The case has been lodged at Sector 39 police station under BNS Section 351(4), and police have begun an investigation.
Rubika Liyaquat, a well-known television journalist, lives in Noida’s Sector 45 and is currently working with Times Now Navbharat as Vice President and Executive Editor. Her husband, Naved Qureshi, has raised concerns over her safety and urged police to take immediate action.
Threat Calls for Nearly a Month
According to the FIR, calls have been made repeatedly to Rubika Liyaquat’s mobile number from several unknown mobile numbers for about a month.
The complaint alleges that the callers threatened to kill her, warned of serious consequences and issued other criminal threats. The family has been living under fear and mental stress because of the repeated calls.
The complaint also claims that the callers appear to be monitoring the anchor’s daily activities, movements and presence at different places. The complainant said this raises concern that she may be under continuous surveillance or that her location may be getting tracked through some means.
Case Linked to Journalism
The FIR states that Rubika Liyaquat is a senior journalist who has long been reporting impartially and fearlessly on important issues concerning the country and public interest.
According to the complaint, the threats are not only a danger to her life but are also obstructing the discharge of her professional duties. The complaint also says the safety of her family has been affected.
The complainant has requested police to technically examine the mobile numbers used for the threats. The demand includes analysis of call detail records, IPDR, location data, digital forensic evidence and other electronic material to identify the accused at the earliest.
Family Seeks Security
The complaint has sought immediate police protection, regular patrolling and other necessary security arrangements for Rubika Liyaquat and her family to prevent any possible untoward incident.
The complainant has also said that call logs, details of threatening numbers and other electronic evidence will be provided to the investigating agency.
After registering the FIR, Noida Police intensified the probe. The investigation is focused on identifying the unknown callers and verifying whether the anchor’s location or activities were being tracked.
