Farrukhabad | A shocking case has emerged from Satnaur Mandi, where a labourer has allegedly been implicated through a fake licence in large-scale trading activities worth crores, along with outstanding market fees of over ₹69 lakh. The matter came to light after the victim received a recovery notice, following which he reached the district collectorate seeking justice and attempted self-immolation in distress.

The victim, Mahendra Singh, originally hails from Banian Uncha village in Gurusahayganj area of Kannauj district and currently works as a labourer in Himachal Pradesh with his family. It is alleged that a fraudulent trading licence was issued in his name under the firm “Anjali Traders” in Satnaur Mandi, Farrukhabad, through which large-scale trade was carried out without his knowledge.

On 1 May, the Mandi Secretary issued a notice in Mahendra Singh’s name demanding payment of ₹69,11,910 as pending mandi fee. The notice also warned that in case of non-payment, a recovery certificate (RC) would be issued along with interest at the rate of 1.5% per month. After receiving the notice through his family, the victim immediately returned from Himachal Pradesh to his native village.

On Tuesday, Mahendra Singh, accompanied by the village head Anil Kumar, visited the Satnaur Mandi office and requested documents related to the licence. It is alleged that despite efforts throughout the day, no records were provided to him. He then approached the district collectorate seeking intervention and justice.

Overcome with fear of recovery proceedings and alleged injustice, Mahendra Singh attempted self-immolation inside the collectorate premises by bringing petrol. Security personnel and Local Intelligence Unit (LIU) officials intervened immediately and prevented any harm. During questioning, he stated that he is a simple labourer and was completely unaware of any fraudulent activity conducted in his name.

The village head also raised concerns, stating that if the licence was indeed fabricated, it must be investigated how banking operations and large-scale trade were conducted under it. He demanded a thorough inquiry into the entire matter.

Following the incident, LIU officials took the victim to the City Magistrate and Mandi Board officials. The City Magistrate, considering the seriousness of the matter, has assured a detailed investigation and appropriate action.

Meanwhile, Mandi Secretary Anoop Kumar Singh stated that according to portal records prior to 2022–23, dues of over ₹69 lakh are shown against “Anjali Traders.” He added that if the licence is found to have been created fraudulently, a comprehensive investigation will be conducted and strict action will be taken against those responsible.
