Jhansi. Police have uncovered an online cricket betting racket operating from a luxury apartment in Jhansi, seizing cash, gold, silver and digital devices worth nearly ₹1.72 crore during a pre-dawn raid. Two women were arrested from the flat, while investigators are examining alleged links to a dismissed police constable and a jailed political figure.

Luxury Apartment Used as Betting Centre

According to investigators, the betting operation was being run from Flat No. 9 on the third floor of the LS Block in Royal City, located in the Sipri Bazar area. Acting on information from an informant, multiple police teams raided the flat early Friday morning.

Officials said trolley bags, cupboards and storage areas inside the apartment contained cash, gold and silver biscuits, jewellery and electronic equipment. The scale of recovery has led police to suspect that the racket had been operating for a considerable period and handling large digital transactions, particularly during IPL matches.

Gold, Silver and Cash Recovered

Police arrested two women identified as Yashasvi Dwivedi and Nisha Khan during the raid. Investigators recovered gold biscuits worth approximately ₹1.46 crore, silver valued at nearly ₹11 lakh and cash exceeding ₹18 lakh.

Officials said the amount of currency recovered was large enough for a counting machine to be arranged at the scene. Police also seized a laptop, 12 mobile phones, a power bank and a register allegedly containing records of betting-related transactions.

Digital Devices Under Forensic Examination

Investigators said Yashasvi Dwivedi allegedly had links with suspended constable Rajat Kumar. After his name surfaced during the investigation, departmental action was initiated and he was dismissed from service.

Authorities are preparing forensic analysis of the seized devices to trace financial transactions, communication records and possible links to other members of the network. Police sources said suspicious chats, online payment details and betting-related data may be recovered from the mobile phones and laptop.

The name of jailed political figure Ashish Upadhyay has also surfaced during the probe. Investigators are examining his alleged role and checking bank accounts, financial transactions and property records connected to the accused. Police said interrogation of the arrested women is continuing, and more names may emerge as the investigation progresses.
