The Jammu and Kashmir administration has initiated steps to expedite the operationalisation of a proposed “Digital Arrest” prevention mechanism as part of wider efforts to strengthen cyber crime prevention, improve institutional coordination and enhance public awareness across the Union Territory. The decision was taken during a high-level review meeting on cyber crime preparedness amid growing concerns over online financial fraud and digital scams.
Digital Arrest prevention mechanism under review
The review focused on completing the statutory, administrative and technical processes required to operationalise the proposed Digital Arrest prevention mechanism. Officials decided that progress on cyber crime prevention initiatives and implementation of the mechanism would be reviewed periodically to improve inter-departmental coordination and ensure timely execution.
Departments directed to complete pending requirements
Departments were asked to submit pending proposals, required documents and progress reports within the prescribed timelines to facilitate the issuance of necessary government orders. The review also emphasised strengthening institutional capacity through regular training and skill development programmes for officials engaged in cyber crime investigation and digital enforcement.
Officials presented the implementation roadmap for the proposed Digital Arrest mechanism, existing infrastructure, institutional preparedness, progress achieved so far, identified gaps and the future action plan for strengthening the cyber security ecosystem across Jammu and Kashmir.
Public awareness and institutional coordination in focus
The meeting highlighted the need for a comprehensive public awareness campaign through print, electronic and digital platforms to educate citizens about emerging cyber threats, including digital arrest scams, online financial frauds and safe digital practices.
Officials also stressed that stronger technological capabilities, improved coordination among stakeholder departments and sustained public awareness would be essential for enhancing cyber crime prevention and building a more effective institutional response to evolving cyber threats across the Union Territory.
