A 30-year-old man on his way to Delhi for questioning in connection with an alleged Rs 1 crore cyber fraud was pushed to his death from a moving train near Ghaziabad, leading to the arrest of his travelling companion. Police identified the victim as Bharat Singh, a resident of Kalyanpur Khas in the Jehanabad area of Pilibhit, whose body was discovered on the railway tracks near Kaila Kheda on September 16. Investigators stated that the suspect allegedly killed Singh out of fear that the ongoing probe into the bank accounts and identity records used in the financial fraud would implicate him.
Background of the Cyber Fraud Inquiry
The sequence of events traces back to discussions held approximately two years ago, when the victim and the accused, both from the same village, considered launching a joint business venture. During this period, the suspect allegedly acquired Singh’s photographs, identity card, signatures, and related documentation. These personal records were later linked to an unauthorized bank account that facilitated fraudulent financial transactions amounting to roughly Rs 1 crore, prompting an inquiry by central investigators.
On September 9, an investigation team visited Singh’s residence in Pilibhit to question him regarding the suspicious transactions. Singh informed the officials that his identity documents and signatures had been handed over to the associate and denied directly operating the bank account involved in the cyber scam. When questioned, the associate claimed he had transferred the records to a third party residing in Gohaniya, who could not be traced by officials. Consequently, investigators served notices requiring both men to report to Delhi for formal questioning.
Fatal Journey on Kashi Vishwanath Express
The victim and the suspect boarded the Kashi Vishwanath Express on the night of September 15 to attend the scheduled inquiry in the capital. According to police findings, the accused feared that questioning would absolve Singh of direct culpability while directing the brunt of legal accountability toward himself. This apprehension allegedly prompted the suspect to eliminate the primary witness before they reached their destination.
As the train crossed the Ghaziabad station and approached Kaila Kheda near the Mahamaya Stadium, the suspect allegedly called Singh toward the carriage door under a pretext. He then pushed Singh out of the moving train, resulting in fatal injuries when the victim hit the railway tracks. Following the incident, the accused contacted Singh’s brother to claim falsely that Singh had alighted at Ghaziabad station to return home by tempo, after which the accused switched off his mobile phone.
Identification, Arrest, and Financial Probe
Local police recovered the unidentified body on the morning of September 16 and shared photographs with the village head in Pilibhit, enabling the family to confirm Singh’s identity. Acting on a complaint lodged by the victim’s father, the Vijaynagar police registered a murder case and arrested the suspect. Authorities stated that the accused confessed during interrogation to pushing Singh from the train to obstruct the fraud investigation.
Police are continuing their probe into the broader financial operation behind the killing. Inquiries revealed that the bank account opened in Singh’s name was operated by an outside party, with the arrested suspect allegedly receiving financial kickbacks in return. Investigators are tracking the money trail, the transfer of documents, and the specific transactions tied to the Rs 1 crore scam, while compiling forensic and documentary evidence for court proceedings.
