A former superintendent of police has been booked in Kotwali police station in Pauri district on the orders of a local court, in a case arising from allegations made by a businessman who claimed he was assaulted, stripped and threatened with false implication when he went to the SP office with a complaint in February 2023.

Court Order Leads to FIR Against Former SP

The action was taken on the directions of the court of Chief Judicial Magistrate Sanjay Singh, which on April 7 ordered registration of a case against the former SP and other accused persons. The court directed police to register the matter under Sections 323, 342, 355, 504, 506, 392 and 120B of the Indian Penal Code.

Kotwal Lalit Mohan Joshi confirmed on Wednesday that the case had been registered in compliance with the court’s order.

Businessman Alleges Assault at SP Office

The case was registered on the complaint of local businessman Laxmi Dutt Joshi. The complainant alleged that on February 6, 2023, he went to the SP office with his daughter to complain about a damaged dirty water pipeline in the police quarters.

According to the allegations, he was assaulted there, stripped and threatened with being implicated in a false case. The complaint is linked to the period when the former officer had been posted in the district as SP for nearly two and a half years.

The complainant had also approached the State Police Complaint Authority in the matter. The authority reportedly found Lokesh Singh at fault and sent a recommendation to the Uttarakhand government seeking disciplinary action against him.

Following the registration of the FIR, the process of police investigation has begun. Further action, the screenshot says, will be decided on the basis of the findings of the inquiry.
