A late night operation by Gorakhpur Police and the Special Operations Group in Deoria led to a raid on a house in Somnath Nagar and the detention of 20 suspected youths, with more than a dozen mobile phones also seized from the premises.

House in Somnath Nagar Surrounded at Night

The police and SOG teams carried out the action on Tuesday night at the residence of Mursalim Ansari in Somnath Nagar. Local residents were quoted as saying that several police vehicles surrounded the house from all sides before a detailed search operation was conducted inside.

During the raid, a number of youths were brought out of the house and taken into custody. The detainees were later taken to Gorakhpur for questioning. Police also seized more than 12 mobile phones from the spot, according to the screenshots.

The youths taken into custody are being described as linked to a free or online suspicious network operating in the city. Sources cited in the screenshots said the matter may be connected to cyber fraud, organised crime or some other suspicious network.

At the same time, the Kotwali police were said to be declining to comment in detail on the matter. The screenshots do not specify any formal charges, and no further official description of the alleged network is provided.

Questions Raised Over Local Police Awareness

Local residents were quoted as saying that the same house had previously come under police scrutiny and had also been raided earlier. What surprised many residents was that the Sadar Kotwali police allegedly had no prior knowledge of the operation.

The operation was described as having been carried out in secrecy by the Gorakhpur Police and SOG team, raising questions over the level of coordination with the local police. Kotwali station in-charge inspector Rakesh Kumar Rai was quoted as saying that he came to know only later that the Gorakhpur team had conducted the raid and taken away some people, and that no prior information had been shared with the Kotwali police.
