The accused are alleged to be involved in the illegal transportation of cannabis products worth approximately USD 2 million (nearly ₹16 crore) using a stolen trailer, raising concerns over a wider organized criminal network.
Stolen Trailer Opens Drug Trail
The operation unfolded in the Mississauga region when the York Regional Police Auto Cargo Theft Unit was conducting routine patrols. Officers spotted a suspicious trailer near McLaughlin Road and Highway 401 that had been reported stolen from the Niagara region earlier. Initial findings suggested that the trailer was being used to transport cannabis products linked to a legitimate supply chain, though investigators soon suspected deeper criminal involvement.
As police intercepted the vehicle, they observed further suspicious activity in the surrounding area. Five individuals were taken into custody at the scene. During the search operation, officers also recovered two firearms, escalating the case beyond theft into a serious weapons and organized crime investigation.

₹16 Crore Cannabis Haul Stuns Police
The arrested individuals have been identified as 21-year-old Manveer Singh, 32-year-old Sarbjeet Singh, 21-year-old Dilkhab Singh, 25-year-old Karan Kumar, and 23-year-old Jaiskavan Malhi. Police said four of the accused are residents of Brampton, while one is from Hamilton.
Authorities have confirmed that 33 charges have been filed against the group. These include offences related to vehicle theft, possession of property obtained through crime, firearms violations, and participation in organized criminal activity. Investigators believe the incident may not be isolated and could be linked to a larger criminal network operating across regions.
Firearms Recovery Deepens Probe
Officials have indicated that additional individuals may also be involved. The investigation is now focused on tracing the origin of the cannabis shipment and identifying the intended distribution points. Authorities are also examining digital records, communication data, and financial transactions to map out possible connections within the network.
Police have urged the public to come forward with any relevant information and have encouraged anonymous reporting through Crime Stoppers to assist the ongoing investigation.
