Noida: Authorities have uncovered an alleged illegal pharmaceutical trafficking operation after seizing anti-cancer and other high-value life-saving medicines worth approximately ₹2 crore from an apartment in Noida, Uttar Pradesh. Preliminary findings indicate that some of the seized medicines were reportedly meant for government supply in Bihar, raising concerns over possible diversion of public healthcare medicines and the existence of an organized interstate distribution network. One accused has been arrested, while investigators continue to trace the wider network behind the operation.
According to officials, the raid was carried out on Monday night at Flat No. 402 in Amrapali Princely Society, Sector-76, Noida. The operation was conducted jointly by the Delhi Crime Branch, the Central Drugs Standard Control Organisation (CDSCO), and the District Drug Department following specific intelligence inputs. During the search, officials recovered a large quantity of imported anti-cancer medicines and other specialized pharmaceutical products with an estimated market value of around ₹2 crore.
During the operation, a man identified as Anand Kumar was arrested from the premises. Investigators said he is being questioned to determine how the medicines were procured, stored, and distributed, as well as to identify other individuals allegedly involved in the operation.
One of the most significant findings during the preliminary investigation is that some of the seized medicines reportedly carried indications that they were intended for government supply in Bihar. This has raised suspicions that medicines earmarked for government hospitals or public healthcare schemes may have been illegally diverted into the private market. However, officials emphasized that this aspect will only be confirmed after detailed verification of documents and supply records.
Officials from the District Drug Department said the raid stemmed from an ongoing investigation into a pharmaceutical trafficking case in Delhi. Investigators had received information suggesting that a Noida apartment was being used to store a large quantity of expensive medicines illegally. After verifying the intelligence, the joint team conducted the raid and seized the entire stock.
Investigators are now working to establish the origin of the medicines, identify their lawful owners, and determine the states where the consignments were intended to be supplied. Authorities are also examining invoices, inventory records, transportation documents, mobile phones, digital evidence, and banking transactions to uncover the complete supply chain and financial trail.
Experts note that anti-cancer medicines are among the most expensive pharmaceutical products and remain in constant demand. Any diversion of medicines from government supply chains can severely affect public healthcare programmes while depriving genuine patients of access to essential treatment. Consequently, the illegal diversion and trafficking of life-saving medicines is considered a serious economic as well as public health offence.
Officials said the batch numbers, manufacturing details, procurement records, and distribution history of the seized medicines will be verified with pharmaceutical companies and relevant government agencies. If the investigation confirms that medicines designated for government supply were illegally diverted into the commercial market, those responsible could face prosecution under the applicable provisions of drug control laws as well as other relevant criminal statutes. The investigation is ongoing, and authorities are working to identify additional suspects and establish the full extent of the alleged network.
