Gyanpur (Bhadohi). Police have arrested another alleged member of an interstate gang accused of preparing fake certificates under the freedom fighter dependent category to facilitate admissions to MBBS courses and recruitment to government jobs. The accused, Nitish Kumar Dubey, is a resident of Bari Dubey village in the Jigna police station area of Mirzapur district. Eight other alleged members of the gang have already been arrested in the case.
According to police, a complaint was registered at Gyanpur police station on September 20, 2025, following a complaint by Shahid Ali. The complaint alleged that fake certificates under the freedom fighter dependent category were being used to secure admission to MBBS courses in government medical colleges. Police subsequently registered a case and began an investigation.

During the investigation, police first arrested an alleged gang member, Shubham Singh. They later arrested Sanjay Dubey, who has been identified as the alleged mastermind of the gang. Further investigation and questioning led police to Nitish Kumar Dubey, a resident of Bari Dubey village in the Jigna area of Mirzapur.
Police subsequently traced Nitish and arrested him from the Jigna police station area. During questioning, he allegedly told investigators that the gang prepared fake certificates and used them to facilitate MBBS admissions as well as recruitment to government jobs. Police said the investigation has also revealed the alleged use of a fake certificate in the 2023 police recruitment process.
Investigators are now examining how many fake certificates were allegedly prepared by the gang and how many candidates may have attempted to obtain MBBS admissions or government jobs using them. Police are also looking into the documents used to prepare the certificates, the verification process and the role of other people allegedly involved in the network.
The investigation is also focusing on the possibility that the gang’s network extended across multiple states. Based on information obtained from the arrested accused, police are attempting to identify people who allegedly helped prepare the fake certificates, arranged them for candidates or facilitated their use during admission and recruitment procedures.
According to police, a mobile phone and ₹700 in cash were recovered from Nitish Kumar Dubey. Investigators are examining the mobile phone to identify other alleged members of the network, potential beneficiaries and communications or transactions linked to the fake certificates.
Officials said the arrest has expanded the scope of the investigation, with eight accused already arrested in the case. Police are also expected to verify admissions and appointments obtained using the allegedly forged certificates to determine the extent to which the gang may have attempted to exploit the education and government recruitment systems.
