Police have registered an FIR against five caregivers after allegations of severe abuse at a day-care centre operating inside the Capgemini campus in Bengaluru surfaced through videos that recently came to light. Investigators allege that toddlers, some around two years old, were subjected to cruel treatment, including being placed inside a washing machine, locked in a dark bathroom and otherwise mistreated as a form of discipline. The videos triggered official intervention and a police investigation. It has also been alleged that an employee who earlier reported the suspected abuse to the management was dismissed from service. All allegations remain under investigation and will be subject to judicial scrutiny.

According to available information, the day-care centre was operated within the Capgemini campus to provide childcare services for employees’ children. District Child Protection officials said they had previously received indications of possible mistreatment at the facility, but immediate action could not be taken due to the absence of sufficient evidence. The emergence of the videos has now brought the matter under formal investigation.

Officials said the viral videos allegedly show young children being made to sit inside a washing machine while water was sprayed on them. Other clips reportedly depict children being locked inside a dark bathroom. Investigating agencies are verifying the authenticity, timing and sequence of the videos to establish the exact circumstances surrounding the alleged incidents.

Child protection authorities stated that preliminary inquiries indicate the children were allegedly subjected to such treatment when they cried or made excessive noise. Officials said that if these allegations are substantiated during the investigation, they would constitute a serious violation of child safety and childcare standards. Caregivers and other individuals associated with the facility are being questioned, while digital and physical evidence is being examined.

Investigators are also looking into another significant allegation involving a whistleblower employee. According to officials, a staff member had earlier raised concerns with senior management regarding the alleged mistreatment of children. It is alleged that instead of acting on the complaint, the employee was removed from service. Authorities are now examining whether the complaint was appropriately handled and whether any negligence occurred at the management level.

Officials said the day-care centre had approximately 50 to 60 registered children, with around 15 to 20 attending on a typical day. As part of the investigation, statements are being recorded from parents, caregivers and other relevant individuals. Authorities are also trying to determine how long the alleged incidents may have continued and whether similar complaints had been made in the past.

Following the circulation of the videos, a complaint was lodged through the Child Helpline. Based on a formal complaint submitted by the District Child Protection Team, police registered an FIR against five caregivers under the applicable legal provisions. The videos and other available evidence have also been forwarded to the Karnataka State Commission for Protection of Child Rights for further examination.

Police are currently analysing CCTV footage, digital records, witness statements and other technical evidence. Officials said that if the investigation reveals the involvement of any additional individual, member of the management or any associated entity, appropriate legal action will be taken in accordance with the law. Further action will depend on the evidence collected and the findings of the ongoing investigation.
