Nashik | The investigation into the high-profile Ashok Kharat case involving alleged financial irregularities, benami transactions and land purchases in Maharashtra continues to widen. With a fresh criminal case now registered, the number of cases filed against Ashok Kharat has risen to 20. Investigators are attempting to unravel the network of land holdings and properties allegedly acquired using unaccounted funds.

The latest case is linked to alleged financial transactions and land purchases connected to a cooperative credit society in the Sinnar region. According to investigators, 32 fake accounts were allegedly opened in the Jagdambamata Credit Society at Kundewadi. These accounts are believed to have been used for suspicious and benami transactions worth nearly ₹52 crore. Authorities suspect that the funds were subsequently utilized to purchase land and build property assets at multiple locations.

Investigators have found that some land transactions dating back to 2004 were registered in the name of Kharat’s wife, Kalpana Kharat. Following a complaint by the original landowner, a fresh case alleging fraud and irregularities in the land purchase process has been registered. Ashok Kharat has once again been taken into custody in connection with the new case and is being questioned further.

Officials believe the matter extends far beyond a single land transaction and may be linked to a broader financial network involving alleged benami investments accumulated over several years. As a result, multiple agencies are examining financial records, banking documents, property registrations and investment trails to establish the movement of funds and identify beneficiaries.

The case has already led to the arrest of Namkaran Aware, who is said to be associated with the cooperative institution and an industrial establishment linked to the matter. Investigators claim they are examining possible connections between Kharat and Aware in several financial transactions and land deals. However, authorities have emphasized that definitive conclusions can only be drawn after the investigation is completed.

One of the most discussed aspects of the case remains the role of Kalpana Kharat. According to investigators, several properties and land parcels under scrutiny are registered in her name. Despite this, she has neither been arrested nor located by investigating agencies so far. Her whereabouts remain unknown, making her role a key focus of the ongoing probe.

Authorities have also identified properties and land assets allegedly purchased in Nashik, Sinnar, Shirdi and Pune. Investigators are now attempting to determine the original source of funds used for these acquisitions and whether the investments were financed through the alleged benami transactions currently under examination.

Experts in financial crime investigations note that cases involving cooperative institutions and fake account networks are often highly complex. Tracing the origin of funds, identifying beneficiaries and establishing ultimate ownership of assets frequently requires a detailed examination of years-old financial records, property documents and banking transactions.

The case has also attracted attention because of earlier investigations into alleged benami transactions and financial dealings by the Enforcement Directorate (ED). While various agencies have examined aspects of the matter, no major official conclusion has yet been announced regarding the overall financial network allegedly linked to the case.

With the number of cases against Ashok Kharat continuing to rise and questions surrounding multi-crore properties remaining unanswered, the matter has emerged as one of Maharashtra’s most closely watched financial and land-related investigations. Attention is now focused on whether investigators can establish the complete trail of funds and uncover the full extent of the alleged benami investments, property acquisitions and financial irregularities connected to the case.
