New Delhi | As competition in the artificial intelligence industry intensifies, US-based AI startup Anthropic has launched its new Slack-native workspace agent, Claude Tag. The company says the tool is far more than a traditional chatbot, describing it as an AI collaborator capable of functioning like a team member by understanding shared conversations and leveraging organizational tools and data sources to complete complex tasks.
Claude Tag will replace the existing Claude chatbot experience in Slack. Users can interact with it by simply tagging @Claude in Slack channels, while access is also available through direct messages and Slack’s AI assistant panel.

According to Anthropic, the system has been designed to integrate naturally into a team’s daily workflow. Employees do not need to switch between different applications or interfaces, as the agent operates directly within the workspace where collaboration and communication already take place.
One of Claude Tag’s most notable features is its asynchronous working capability. Users can assign a task and continue with other work while the AI operates in the background. Once the task is completed, the agent automatically notifies the relevant user or team. This capability is expected to improve efficiency in activities such as research, document preparation, code reviews, data analysis, and other time-consuming workflows.
The new agent is powered by Anthropic’s latest large language model, Opus 4.8. The company says the model offers stronger reasoning abilities, improved contextual understanding, and greater capacity for handling complex assignments. Claude Tag can also retain relevant channel discussions and workspace context over time, reducing the need for users to repeatedly provide the same information.
Anthropic says AI is already playing an increasingly important role in its own internal operations. According to the company, Claude now contributes to a significant portion of product-team code generation and is being used extensively across engineering, customer support, analytics, and operational functions.
Claude Tag is being positioned as the next evolution of the company’s earlier coding agent, Claude Code. While Claude Code was primarily a terminal-based tool designed for individual developers, Claude Tag has been built for team-based, multi-user collaboration. Operating directly inside Slack, it enables multiple users to work alongside the same AI agent within shared channels.
The company has also emphasized security and administrative oversight. Only workspace Owners and Primary Owners can configure the agent’s identity, connect external tools, define accessible channels, manage spending limits, and review activity logs. Anthropic says permissions and memory remain restricted to specific workspaces and channels, helping prevent sensitive information from being shared across teams.
Currently, Claude Tag is available in beta for Team and Enterprise customers. Existing Claude-in-Slack users will be gradually migrated to the new experience. Anthropic has also indicated plans to expand Claude Tag beyond Slack and into other workplace platforms in the future.
As demand for AI agents continues to grow, the launch of Claude Tag reflects a broader shift in the industry. Rather than simply answering questions, AI systems are increasingly being developed to function as active digital collaborators capable of participating in everyday workplace operations and helping teams accomplish tasks more efficiently.
