Dabra (Madhya Pradesh) | Police in Madhya Pradesh have registered a First Information Report (FIR) against four traders in connection with an alleged ₹1.53 crore paddy trade fraud in Dabra. The accused are alleged to have taken delivery of paddy from the Dabra Agricultural Produce Market (Mandi), sold or utilised the stock, and failed to make the agreed payment to the supplier. Following a complaint, police have initiated an investigation under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
According to police, the case was registered on the complaint of Dabra-based trader Pramod Sharma. In his complaint, Sharma stated that he had been engaged in regular business transactions with the accused since 2023. He alleged that payments were made on time during the initial phase of their commercial relationship, establishing trust between the parties. However, the accused allegedly continued purchasing paddy while gradually defaulting on payments, causing the outstanding amount to rise to approximately ₹1.53 crore.

The complainant alleged that despite repeated requests and reminders, the accused refused to clear the outstanding dues. He further claimed that after taking delivery of the paddy consignments, the accused either sold the produce or used it for their own business operations without paying the agreed consideration. Following the alleged default, Sharma approached the police seeking legal action.
Based on the complaint, police have registered a case against Parvesh Khurania (Bansal), Ashu Gambhir, his firm Karunanidhan Agrotech Private Limited of Mastpur in Ambala, Haryana, Keshav Mittal, and Dinesh, who is associated with Indovest Rice Mill in Karnal, Haryana. The FIR has been registered under Sections 406 and 34 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. Investigators are examining business records, payment details and other documentary evidence as part of the probe.
Police are also verifying agreements executed between the parties, invoices, transport documents, bank transactions and other financial records to determine whether the allegations made in the complaint are supported by evidence. Additional financial documents may also be examined or seized if required during the investigation.
The case has also drawn attention to commercial transactions at the Dabra Agricultural Produce Market, one of Madhya Pradesh’s prominent A-grade mandis where traders from Haryana, Punjab and other states regularly procure paddy in large quantities. Members of the local trading community have claimed that several similar disputes exist and that nearly ₹50 crore belonging to Dabra-based traders remains outstanding with traders from Haryana in separate business dealings.
Police said statements of all concerned parties will be recorded and further legal action will be taken on the basis of documentary evidence and financial records collected during the investigation. Officials emphasised that the case is currently under investigation and that the allegations contained in the complaint will be verified through due legal process before any conclusions are reached.
