A police constable posted in Lucknow has been dismissed from service after accusing senior Police Line officers of corruption and illegal monetary collections. Constable Sunil Kumar Shukla had alleged that officials responsible for duty deployment were demanding ₹2,000 from personnel in exchange for assigning duties, triggering widespread discussion within the police department.
Shukla had released a video after proceeding on leave in which he claimed that the Police Line counting in-charge, the Reserve Inspector (RI), and other senior officers were collecting ₹2,000 from each constable in the name of duty allocation. The allegations quickly gained attention on social media and prompted an official departmental inquiry.

Originally a resident of Gauriganj in Amethi district, Sunil Kumar Shukla’s wife is also a police constable and is currently posted in Raebareli.
According to an official statement issued by Lucknow Police, Shukla uploaded the video on May 7, 2026. Considering the seriousness of the allegations, a departmental inquiry committee headed by Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (West) Dhananjay Singh Kushwaha and other officers was constituted to examine the matter.
The inquiry committee recorded statements from the concerned police personnel and also provided Shukla with an opportunity to present evidence supporting his allegations. According to the inquiry report, he failed to produce any documentary or other credible evidence to substantiate his claims.
The departmental inquiry found him guilty of multiple instances of misconduct and violations of service rules. These included using social media without prior authorization, publicly making unsubstantiated allegations against senior officers, attempting to tarnish the image of the police department without evidence, promoting indiscipline within the police force, and using objectionable language against superior officers.
Authorities further stated that his actions violated the Uttar Pradesh Social Media Policy-2023, Rules 3, 6, 7 and 27 of the Uttar Pradesh Government Servants Conduct Rules, 1956, as well as the Uttar Pradesh Uniform Regulations. Based on these findings and the inquiry report, the department ordered his dismissal from service.
Following his dismissal, Shukla released another video in which he said he held no personal grievance against officers of the police department. He also stated that he had anticipated disciplinary action against him.
In the video, Shukla said, “I had already said that I would first be suspended and then dismissed. In the coming days, an FIR may also be registered against me. I want to make it clear that I will not do anything that causes harm or distress to society.”
He also made remarks criticising the government after his dismissal, while the departmental proceedings against him concluded with his removal from service.
