The Lucknow Bench of the Allahabad High Court has pulled up the Lucknow Police over the handling of missing minor girls’ cases, directing senior officers to ensure closer monitoring and accountability after the court was informed that several girls remained untraced in one police jurisdiction. The court’s concern came during proceedings linked to a habeas corpus petition in which a 12-year-old girl was recovered after judicial intervention.
Court Seeks Accountability From Senior Officers
The court directed DCP East Deeksha Sharma to submit a detailed report within three days on the status of such cases under her jurisdiction. It also directed station house officers, circle officers and investigating officers concerned to remain present before the court on the next date of hearing.

Affidavit Reveals Untraced Minor Girls
According to reports, an affidavit placed before the court indicated that 81 cases involving missing minor girls had been reported in one police jurisdiction, of which 15 girls were still missing. The court treated the figures as a serious matter requiring immediate attention from senior police officials.
The case before the court involved the recovery of a 12-year-old girl, which took place after the habeas corpus petition was taken up. The development prompted wider scrutiny of police action in other pending cases involving missing minors.
Police Functioning Under Judicial Scrutiny
The High Court expressed concern over police functioning and directed that effective monitoring be ensured in cases involving missing minor girls. The order has placed the focus on coordination between investigating officers, station-level officials and senior officers responsible for supervision.
The matter is now expected to remain under the court’s watch as police officials prepare their report and appear before the Bench. The proceedings have also brought renewed attention to the safety of minor girls in Lucknow and the need for timely action in disappearance cases.
