Police in Haryana’s Nuh district have placed 58 villages under strict surveillance as part of a targeted enforcement campaign to curb surging cybercrime in the region. Alongside heightened monitoring, authorities have issued formal legal notices to village heads, explicitly warning them against providing shelter, protection, or systemic support to digital fraudsters.
Initiated on Tuesday under the designation “Operation Clean”, the sweeping administrative crackdown follows the strategic identification of specific rural localities that have repeatedly surfaced in ongoing police investigations.
Local Networks Targeted to Reclaim District Reputation
According to senior police officials, district administrators were compelled to take these strict structural measures due to growing concerns over the region’s deteriorating public image. Nuh has increasingly been perceived as a major hub for cybercrime, a reputation that prompted law enforcement to enforce direct accountability at the village level. As part of the multi-layered initiative, police forces plan to intensify field operations to dismantle localized networks that facilitate cyber fraud and shield suspects from tracking.
The targeted villages are heavily concentrated within the territorial jurisdictions of the Punhana, Bichor, and Ferozpur Jhirka police stations. Police records indicate that several individuals native to these 58 villages have already been arrested in connection with prominent online fraud cases. Furthermore, official complaints have frequently emerged regarding local support rings that allegedly cooperate to help active cybercriminals evade law enforcement operations.

Legal Warnings Issued Directly to Village Sarpanches
The sarpanches of the flagged villages have been served direct legal notices by the administration. Local leaders were cautioned by police officials that criminal proceedings may be initiated against them if they are found aiding, sheltering, or otherwise assisting individuals involved in digital fraud. The warning aims to cut off the localized infrastructure that provides safe havens for financial scammers.
Investigations in these areas have repeatedly linked local operators to a wide range of digital offences. These include mass online fraud, fraudulent phone calls, digital arrest scams, and high-volume cyber fraud linked to the OLX marketplace platform.
Authorities Appeal to Residents for Social Boycott
To augment the physical crackdown, police have appealed directly to Nuh residents to enforce a social boycott against any community members engaged in cybercrime. Citizens are also being urged to share any relevant information or tips regarding fraudulent operations with the police.
A spokesperson for the Nuh police stated that upcoming special drives will be executed across the identified villages to root out illicit setups. Strict legal action will be systematically taken against primary offenders, their immediate associates, and anyone discovered providing protection or logistical assistance to cybercriminals within the district.
