Bhopal | In a major development in the investigation into the suspicious death of model and actor Twisha Sharma, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Thursday arrested her mother-in-law Giribala Singh from her residence in Bhopal. The action came a day after the Madhya Pradesh High Court cancelled the anticipatory bail earlier granted to her. Twisha’s husband, Samarth Singh, is already in CBI custody, and investigators are now preparing to jointly interrogate the mother-son duo.

According to sources, CBI teams had been present at the residence in the Katara Hills area since Thursday morning. A technical and forensic team first conducted crime scene mapping and inspection at the house, followed by a separate team of women investigators who questioned Giribala Singh for several hours. After nearly five hours of interrogation, she was taken into custody at around 5:20 pm. She was later sent for medical examination before being produced before the competent court.

Twisha Sharma died on the night of May 12 after she was allegedly found hanging from the terrace of her matrimonial home. She had married Bhopal-based advocate Samarth Singh on December 9, 2025. The death, occurring less than six months after the marriage, triggered serious allegations and widespread public attention. Twisha’s family had accused her husband and in-laws of dowry harassment and mental cruelty from the very beginning.

A case related to dowry death, harassment and cruelty was registered on May 15. As questions emerged over several aspects of the initial investigation, the matter continued to attract public and media attention. Following mounting pressure and demands from the victim’s family, the state government recommended a CBI inquiry on May 23. The agency formally took over the investigation on May 25 after re-registering the case.

The investigation gained further momentum after the High Court cancelled the anticipatory bail granted to Giribala Singh by a lower court. Soon after the court order, the CBI moved swiftly to detain her. Investigators believe that custodial interrogation could reveal crucial details regarding alleged dowry demands, family dynamics and the circumstances leading up to Twisha’s death.

The post-mortem findings have also become a crucial part of the high-profile case. The first autopsy was conducted at AIIMS Bhopal on May 13. However, Twisha’s family raised concerns over the findings and demanded a second examination. Acting on High Court directions, a team of doctors from AIIMS Delhi later conducted a second post-mortem at AIIMS Bhopal. The final report is still awaited and is expected to play a key role in the investigation.

Investigators are also examining digital evidence, including call records, chats and statements from people close to the family. Sources said the probe is focused on determining whether Twisha had been subjected to sustained mental pressure or dowry-related harassment before her death. Officials believe that further questioning of the accused may help uncover additional layers of the case.

The case has sparked widespread discussion on social media and within the entertainment industry, with many demanding a fair and transparent investigation. Meanwhile, Twisha’s family has maintained that they will continue their legal battle until justice is delivered. At present, attention remains fixed on the CBI’s next course of action and the findings of the second post-mortem report.
