A suspected case of biometric fraud in Aadhaar authentication has surfaced in Haryana’s Hisar district, where the administration has reported allegations that an Aadhaar computer operator used a rubber thumb impression during login procedures, allowing unauthorised access to the system.
Complaint Triggers UIDAI Intervention
The district administration received a complaint alleging misuse of the biometric authentication process by a Zonal Citizens Resource Information Manager, identified as an Aadhaar operator. The complaint said the authorised user’s login through thumb impression was being used by unauthorised persons for system access.
After receiving the complaint, the district administration wrote to the Unique Identification Authority of India to report the matter. Following this, UIDAI’s Regional Office in Chandigarh directed the administration to conduct a detailed inquiry and initiate legal action if any wrongdoing is established.

Rubber Thumb Impression Alleged in Login Process
An official letter from the Additional Deputy Commissioner to the Deputy Director General, UIDAI, Chandigarh, recorded the allegation that the operator may have been misusing biometric authentication systems. The operator is described as an employee of the Citizen Resource Information Department, which handles citizen welfare data, Family ID work and verification services at the district level.
According to the letter, the operator allegedly used a rubber thumb impression instead of the actual biometric thumb impression during Operator Confirmation on the Aadhaar Enrolment Client Multiple Platform. The complaint suggested that this method may have been used to bypass the intended authentication safeguard built into the Aadhaar process.
Unauthorised Location Also Under Scrutiny
The complaint also raised concerns that the Aadhaar machine was allegedly being operated from an unauthorised private location rather than from the designated authorised premises. The letter cited the possibility that unauthorised activities may have been carried out through the machine.
The allegations have placed the case under closer administrative scrutiny because they concern not only the authenticity of biometric access but also the physical control and location of Aadhaar related operations. The reports do not state whether the allegations have yet been proven, but they make clear that the district administration has formally flagged the matter and that UIDAI has sought a detailed inquiry. The outcome of that inquiry is expected to determine whether legal proceedings will follow.
