New Delhi | In a shocking case that raises serious questions over law enforcement integrity, a Delhi Police constable has been accused of masterminding a major robbery in the capital. The case pertains to a ₹50 lakh heist carried out on March 31 in North Delhi’s Bara Hindu Rao area, where the arrest of seven accused has revealed that the conspiracy was allegedly orchestrated from within the police system itself.

Investigations have found that Constable Samay Singh Meena, posted in the fifth battalion of Delhi Police, was the key architect of the crime. Acting on his instructions, the gang executed the robbery in a planned manner. Along with Meena (38), six others—Salman (28), Sahil alias Babu (26), Javed (24), Nikhil Kumar Meena (27), Rohit alias Himanshu (24), and Farman (21)—have been arrested.

According to investigators, Samay Singh Meena has a criminal background, with three cases already registered against him. He has also been arrested twice in the past, raising serious concerns about vetting and monitoring within the force.

Based on the disclosures made by the accused, police have recovered approximately ₹40 lakh in cash from the looted amount. In addition, five premium mobile phones worth ₹6 lakh, the motorcycle used in the crime, and other items have also been seized. Officials said a portion of the stolen money had already been spent, while the rest was being concealed.

As per the complaint filed by victim Rana Mahepal Singh, he and his associate Mohan Lal had collected ₹50.37 lakh from an acquaintance in Kirti Nagar and were travelling towards Chandni Chowk in an auto-rickshaw. When they reached near the Azad Market railway underpass, four men on a scooter and a motorcycle intercepted them. The accused assaulted them and snatched the bag containing cash before fleeing the scene.

Given the seriousness of the crime, multiple teams were formed to investigate the case. Analysis of CCTV footage led to the identification of a suspicious motorcycle, which took the police to Shriram Colony in Karawal Nagar. The bike owner revealed that he had lent it to Salman, following which police arrested him.

During interrogation, Salman disclosed details of the entire gang and admitted that he, along with Javed, Sahil, Rohit and Nikhil, had carried out the robbery. Subsequently, the remaining accused were arrested in a phased manner. Rohit alias Himanshu was apprehended on April 11, while Farman was arrested on April 25, leading to further recoveries of cash.

The most startling revelation came during Farman’s questioning. He disclosed that he was in contact with Constable Samay Singh Meena, who had instructed him to arrange accomplices for the robbery. Salman then facilitated meetings between the gang members and Meena, along with Nikhil Meena. As per the plan, the accused were first sent to Kirti Nagar to track the victims. They then followed them to the Azad Market underpass, where the robbery was executed in a coordinated manner.

The case has raised serious concerns about internal oversight and accountability within the police force. While law enforcement agencies are tasked with combating crime, the involvement of a serving constable in such an offence exposes vulnerabilities within the system.

All accused are currently in custody and are being further interrogated. They are expected to be produced in court. Investigators are also examining whether the gang was involved in similar crimes in the past or if a larger network is at play.

The incident highlights an evolving pattern in crime, where threats can emerge from within institutions themselves. It underscores the urgent need for stronger monitoring, transparency, and accountability mechanisms to ensure public trust in the law enforcement system remains intact.
