Srinagar. The Economic Offences Wing of Crime Branch Jammu & Kashmir has filed a chargesheet against a man accused of cheating multiple individuals through false promises of land allotments and government jobs. The case, registered in 2019, involves allegations that victims were induced to part with money after being assured land through the Jammu Development Authority and government employment for their relatives.

Accused Allegedly Promised Land and Jobs

The accused has been identified as Bashir Ahmad Bhat, a resident of the Tailbal area in Srinagar. According to investigators, he allegedly misled complainants by claiming that he could arrange land through the Jammu Development Authority and secure government jobs.

Officials said the promised land and employment never materialised, prompting victims to approach authorities. The case was formally registered after complainants realised that they had allegedly been deceived.

Probe Finds Evidence of Deliberate Deception

During the investigation, officials collected documentary and testimonial evidence indicating that the accused had intentionally misrepresented facts. Investigators found that the victims were dishonestly induced to transfer money on the basis of false assurances.

Authorities said the accused allegedly exploited the aspirations of people seeking stable employment and land ownership. By presenting himself as a person with influence and access to official channels, he gained the trust of victims and convinced them of the legitimacy of his claims.

Case Moves to Court for Trial

Investigators noted that the alleged fraud appeared to involve a broader pattern of conduct, with similar promises reportedly made to multiple individuals. The total amount involved has not been officially disclosed, though officials described the matter as substantial enough to warrant detailed investigation and legal action.

Following completion of the probe, the chargesheet was submitted before a competent court in Srinagar for judicial adjudication. The court will now examine the evidence and decide the course of the trial.

Authorities have urged the public to verify claims involving land deals or job placements, especially when made through unofficial intermediaries. Officials also said that no legitimate government process for land allotment or recruitment involves unofficial payments or private guarantees.
