Film actor Shreyas Talpade and 12 others have been booked in an alleged investment fraud case in Uttar Pradesh’s Mainpuri district, after a local resident accused them of cheating villagers of lakhs of rupees under the guise of a financial scheme.

According to police officials, the Bhogaon police station registered the case on February 10 following a complaint filed by a resident of Mohalla Mishrana. The complainant alleged that Talpade and his associates lured people into investing money with promises of attractive returns but later failed to deliver, resulting in financial losses.

The matter has now moved into the investigation stage after police acted on a court order directing registration of the FIR.

Allegations of Cheating in the Name of Investment

As per the complaint, the accused allegedly promoted an investment scheme linked to a Mumbai bank branch operating in the town, convincing locals to deposit substantial sums. The complainant claimed that several villagers collectively invested lakhs of rupees, expecting assured benefits and returns.

However, the promised payouts reportedly did not materialise. The investors later suspected foul play and approached legal authorities, alleging they had been deceived.

Based on these allegations, police registered a case naming Talpade and 12 others, treating the matter as suspected cheating and financial fraud.

Police Begin Probe After Court Direction

Officials confirmed that the FIR was filed after the court directed police to take cognisance of the complaint, following which a formal investigation was launched.

Investigators are now expected to examine:

  • the structure of the investment scheme,
  • the role of each accused,
  • financial transactions involved,
  • and whether funds were unlawfully collected from the public.
  • Police said further action will depend on evidence gathered during the probe.

No official statement has yet been released from Talpade or the other accused regarding the allegations.
