Mangaluru Police Commissioner Anupam Agrawal has responded to the controversy surrounding the conduct of Urwa police officers with a cyber-crime accused. The controversy emerged after allegations surfaced that the officers showed undue friendliness toward the accused, traveled with them at their expense, and even took selfies.

According to reports, the police had traveled to Rajasthan for an investigation and were accused of engaging in inappropriate conduct with the accused. Additionally, during the inquiry at the police station, college students were reportedly allowed to interact with the accused under the pretense of learning about cybercrime activities.

Following the allegations, Commissioner Agrawal ordered an internal inquiry led by CEN ACP Ravish Nayak. The investigation found that the flight tickets were booked using departmental funds, refuting claims that the accused had covered the expenses. However, a head constable was found guilty of misconduct for taking a selfie with the accused and has since been suspended.

Regarding the presence of college students at the police station, Commissioner Agrawal clarified that while the accused’s cybercrime activities were explained to them, police regulations prohibit presenting criminals before students. Due to this violation, departmental disciplinary action has been initiated against the Urwa police inspector.

Commissioner Agrawal assured that strict measures have been implemented to uphold police conduct and procedures, ensuring that such incidents do not occur again.
