Prime Minister Directs State DGPs to Tackle Cybercrime in Mission Mode and Prioritize Cybersecurity

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday highlighted the need for India’s police and security forces to harness the dual strengths of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Aspirational India to combat rising threats like digital fraud, cybercrime, and the disruptive potential of technologies such as deepfakes.

Speaking at the concluding session of the DGP and IG Conference, the Prime Minister called for the transformation of policing into a SMART framework—Strategic, Meticulous, Adaptable, Reliable, and Transparent. He emphasized the modernization of law enforcement agencies to align with the vision of a ‘Viksit Bharat’ (Developed India).

Key Initiatives and Suggestions

PM Modi praised urban policing initiatives and suggested their implementation across 100 cities nationwide. He also proposed leveraging technology to reduce the workload on the constabulary and advocated for police stations to become central hubs for resource allocation.

The Prime Minister highlighted the importance of securing India’s ports and urged law enforcement agencies to devise a future-focused action plan for port security. He further recommended paying tribute to Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel on his 150th birth anniversary next year by setting and achieving goals that enhance police professionalism, capabilities, and public trust.

Tackling Security Challenges

PM Modi expressed satisfaction with the wide-ranging discussions during the conference, which addressed national and international security challenges. Key issues included counter-terrorism, Left Wing extremism, cybercrime, economic security, immigration, coastal security, narco-trafficking, and border concerns with Bangladesh and Myanmar. Strategies for countering malicious narratives and trends in urban policing were also explored.

The conference featured in-depth deliberations led by Union Home Minister Amit Shah, National Security Advisor Ajit Doval, and senior officials. PM Modi distributed the President’s Police Medal for Distinguished Service to Intelligence Bureau officers and commended their dedication.

Participants and Format

The hybrid-format conference brought together DGPs from all states and Union Territories, heads of central armed police forces, and central police organizations. Over 750 officers joined virtually, ensuring broad participation in the discussions.

With a call to embrace technology, modernize policing, and enhance security frameworks, PM Modi reinforced the importance of a forward-looking approach to safeguard India’s national and social fabric.
