VIJAYAWADA — The Central Bureau of Investigation has arrested the Superintendent of Central Goods and Services Tax posted at Ibrahimpatnam in Vijayawada, Andhra Pradesh, in connection with a bribery case. The arrest followed a complaint alleging that the public servant demanded a bribe of Rs 1,50,000 from an individual running a private company in exchange for withholding a tax liability demand notice and closing the matter.
Trap Operation Catches Official Red Handed
Following the receipt of the complaint, the central investigation agency registered a formal case on August 10, 2026, against the accused officer. Investigative officials laid a trap on the same day to catch the public servant during the financial transaction.
During the operation, CBI officials caught the officer red-handed while accepting Rs 50,000, which constituted part of the total demanded bribe amount. The bribe amount of Rs 50,000 was successfully recovered directly during the trap proceedings.
Search Operations Initiated at Officer Premises
Subsequent to the trap operation and arrest, the central agency initiated search operations across the premises of the accused public servant located in Vijayawada.
The searches aim to collect further material evidence linked to the ongoing bribery investigation as officers continue to examine the official’s conduct, documents, and dealings.
Court Production Scheduled in Vijayawada
Following the successful trap operation, the accused public servant was formally taken into custody by investigative officers.
The officer is scheduled to be produced before the competent court at Vijayawada on August 11, 2026, as the investigation into the case remains active and ongoing.
