Job Scam Takedown: Two Cybercriminals Nabbed in Fake Call Center Bust
VARANASI: Two notorious cybercriminals, including the mastermind behind a multi-state job fraud ring, have been arrested by Varanasi’s Cyber Crime Police . The scam, which preyed on unsuspecting job seekers, involved posing as legitimate call centers and siphoning off lakhs of rupees through fabricated fees and charges.

Modus Operandi:
- Targeted recruitment: Cybercriminals scraped data from job boards like Naukri.com and Monster India, identifying desperate job seekers.
- Fake facade: They created fake call centers disguised as private limited companies and approached victims under the guise of job consultancy firms.
- Lure of the job: Victims were lured with promising job offers and tricked into filling forms that captured their personal and financial information.
- Fee trap: Under the pretext of registration, appointment, verification, and insurance fees, the criminals extorted significant sums of money from their unsuspecting targets.

The Downfall:
Shreyans Kumar Mishra, a resident of Jaunpur, became a victim of this nefarious scheme and lost about Rs. 11 lakh. Promptly, he filed a complaint at the Varanasi Cyber Crime Police Station, leading to an investigation that unraveled the entire operation.
Crackdown and Recovery:
Through meticulous electronic surveillance and modern technological tools, the Cyber Crime Police team, led by Inspector Vijay Narayan Mishra, successfully tracked down and arrested the two key suspects:
- Rohit Kumar, a graduate with a computer degree, residing in South Delhi.
- Atit Kumar, also a graduate with a computer degree, hailing from South Delhi.
The arrests took place in Block E, Kalkaji, South West Delhi, and resulted in the recovery of a significant amount of evidence, including mobile phones, computers and laptops, bank passbooks and chequebooks, debit cards and SIM cards
Unmasking the Mastermind:
Interrogation revealed that the arrested individuals were former telecallers in legitimate call centers and employment agencies. This insider knowledge allowed them to create a convincing facade and exploit vulnerabilities in the job search process.
