Over 300 % Increase In Cyber Threat In India Before Christmas: Surfshark
NEW DELHI: A new study based on data from Surfshark Antivirus shows that at least one threat is found on every 50th scan. A week before Christmas, there were 314.42% more cyberthreats in India.
This is likely because people are shopping more during the holiday season. India faced 24 threats for every 100 scan cycles. In India, the most common threats over the past two months have been trojans and heuristics. During the week before Christmas, India’s threat rate went up by 314%.
Portugal (610%), Thailand (244%), India (314%), Lithuania (185%), and Chile (1307%) were the five countries where the threat rate rose the most from week to week.

In the last few months, Europe has been the most affected area.
Surfshark Antivirus’s monthly data shows that India is the 10th most dangerous country in the Asia-Pacific region from mid-October until Christmas, when the monitoring started. In Asia-Pacific, about 13 threats are found for every 100 scans. It is 0% less than the average around the world. The number of cyberthreats in Europe is 25 percent higher than the average for the world as a whole.
Since mid-October, the most common cyberthreats are:
The types of threats that Surfsharks Antivirus finds and flags most often are riskware (44.1% of all threats), heuristic (13.3% of all threats), and trojan (9% of all threats).
The most recent weekly global scans since October 17 show that, on average, 10 RISKWARE threats were found for every 100 scans. Some malware (viruses, trojans, worms, etc.) tends to spread once it gets into a device. This could damage files, personal information, and operating software. Most likely, VIRUS will be the type of malware in a bundle. More than 50 viruses are found by 33% of scans that find them.
Malware and riskware are two types of cyber threats that happen often. Riskware is a programme made without bad intentions, but it has security holes that make it possible for it to become malware. Malware is any software, product, or programme that is made or put on a computer to do damage.

Malware is a type of software that hackers use to damage or delete files, steal money and personal information, copy passwords, or take control of certain programmes. Malware is most often put on a computer through phishing emails, corrupt attachments, suspicious downloads, links from websites you don’t know, and malicious websites. There are many different kinds of malware, like viruses, trojans, worms, spyware, adware, bots, and more.
Tips to keep you safe from online threats
Avoid sites you don’t know: Stay away from sites you don’t know or haven’t checked out that offer deals that seem too good to be true.
Find the lock symbol: Make sure that the site uses HTTPS, which is a secure connection. You can tell they are safe sites by the lock icon in the address bar.
Software updates: Make sure that the programmes and apps are up-to-date to avoid security problems.
Stay away from links that look sketchy: Scammers will send you bad links through email, mobile, or social media. Don’t click on them; instead, check out deals on the official website of a store.
Look out for typos: Grammar that isn’t consistent, a lot of typos, and phrases that don’t make sense can be signs of possible scams.
Use Antivirus: It protects against threats that could happen today in real time and has advanced detection for malware and cyberattacks.
