Massive Crackdown Against Child Pornography; Nagpur Police Arrest 38 People For Uploading Objectionable Child Video

New Delhi: In an effort to combat a sharp rise in child pornography in the country, Nagpur cyber cell has launched a massive crackdown and arrested 38 people including a few minors for uploading objectionable video content of children on various social media platforms.

According to Dr. Ashok Bagul, in-charge of Nagpur Cyber Police, central agencies that monitor cyber space forwarded details also known as – Tipline Report – of such offenders. After verifying details of the accused raids were conducted and offenders were held.

The officials said tiplines reports are generated from an arrangement between the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) of India and the National Centre for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC), based in the US. NCRB sends digital logs of such violators to state police which is further sent to respective police station for action.

Speaking to The420.in Dr Ashok Bagul said, as soon we got details of these offenders we took proactive action and registered an FIR against them under sections of the IT Act and the POCSO Act.

Nagpur Police so far has not found any organised gang behind uploading such obscene content online. “Those arrested were involved in uploading child pornography on social media which they had downloaded from various sources. They were not involved in shooting or recording these videos. The intention behind uploading such content online is still unknown,” Bagul said.

In India, viewing or exchanging child pornography is a crime punishable by up to five years in prison and a maximum punishment of Rs. 10 lakh.

The issue of child pornography is growing by the day and especially during the lockdown consumption of such content has grown many fold. NCMEC handed over a list of 25,000 Tipline reports on suspected child pornography material uploaded on social media in India in January, sparking a heated debate in Parliament.
