Fake Call Centre Offering Lucrative Work From Home Jobs Busted By Delhi Police, 8 Arrested
NEW DELHI: Intensifying its action against illegal call centers duping people by offering lucrative jobs, team of Delhi Police’s Outer District busted a fake call centre which was cheating people on the pretext of attractive online or work from home jobs. They were making money by asking job seekers to pay a security deposits.
According to the police, on April 6, acting on secret information about a fake call centre being operational in the Nangloi area raids was conducted.
It was found that the alleged call centre was being operated by Ajim Ali and Afzal Mirza (both brothers) with the help of six female tele-callers. The accused were found involved in making lucrative job offers to prospective victims through telephonic calls, WhatsApp chat and emails.
The accused brothers got this idea of cheating people after noticing work from home advertisements in newspapers about two years back and started their illegal business in January 2020.
To avoid suspicion they kept their charges low. For verification and other charges they asked their victims to pay anything between Rs 1,000 to 3,000. “The thought behind this was that with such low amount the cheated victim is unlikely to complain,” said a senior officer.
He explained that the gang’s modus operandi was to call random numbers through tele-callers and put up home/online job offers with remuneration of upto Rs 2, 000 rupees per day. If the called person agreed, they would ask for money for verification and final placement. Once the money was transferred to their account, there would be no further contact.
Police have recovered eight mobile phones, 20 SIM cards, 10 register bearing records, one laptop and a desktop.
A team of special staff comprising of ASI Rishikesh, HC Krishan, Ct. Ajay, Ct. Pawan, Ct. Ajay and Ct. Vishal cracked the case.
