According to industry experts, the increasing cost of attending World Cup matches is making fans more vulnerable to fraudulent offers. As prices rise, many supporters are actively searching for cheaper alternatives, often falling prey to fake deals and phishing schemes.
“Large gatherings like a World Cup are a scammer’s dream,” said Nuno Sebastiao, CEO of fraud prevention firm Feedzai, highlighting how cybercriminals exploit urgency and emotional demand among fans.
The 2026 tournament is expected to be one of the most expensive editions, with ticket prices and associated travel costs reaching unprecedented levels.
