In a historic move, the Delhi Police has introduced a merit-based examination system to appoint Station House Officers (SHOs) for Cyber Police Stations. This initiative marks the first time in the department’s history that SHO appointments will not rely solely on seniority and experience. Instead, a structured competitive exam will determine the most skilled and capable officers to lead cybercrime investigations across the capital.
The move is aimed at enhancing transparency, accountability, and efficiency in selecting police leadership. Given the rising complexities of cybercrime, the Delhi Police seeks to place technologically proficient officers at the helm of cyber units.
Intense Competition for Limited Positions
A total of 122 police inspectors have applied for just 15 coveted Cyber SHO positions. The overwhelming response highlights growing interest in cyber policing, reflecting the increasing importance of digital forensics, cybersecurity enforcement, and online fraud investigations.
