The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has launched a significant investigation into the Tamil Nadu State Marketing Corporation (TASMAC), the state-run liquor retail monopoly, conducting extensive raids across Tamil Nadu. The operation, spanning multiple locations, signals a deepening probe into alleged irregularities within the corporation and its associated entities.

The ED’s actions, now in their second consecutive day, have focused on key TASMAC offices and private liquor companies. The TASMAC headquarters in Thousand Lights, Chennai, is a central point of the investigation, with officials meticulously examining records and areas linked to TASMAC contractors. Simultaneously, the SNJ TASMAC contractor office is also under scrutiny. Further raids are being conducted at the TASMAC office in Egmore, indicating a widespread effort to gather evidence across the corporation’s administrative network.

Beyond Chennai, the ED’s investigation has extended to the KALS liquor factory in Pudukottai district. This raid, which commenced on Thursday, remains ongoing, highlighting the ED’s determination to comprehensively investigate potential financial discrepancies and illicit activities within the state’s liquor industry.

The raids suggest a focus on potential financial irregularities, including alleged money laundering and corruption, involving TASMAC contractors and private liquor companies. The ED’s involvement indicates that the investigation may involve substantial sums of money and potentially complex financial transactions. The simultaneous raids at multiple locations suggest a coordinated effort to gather evidence and prevent the destruction or concealment of relevant documents.

The intensifying investigation has drawn significant attention, raising questions about the transparency and accountability of TASMAC’s operations.9 The outcome of the ED’s probe could have significant implications for the state’s liquor industry and the broader political landscape in Tamil Nadu.
