New Delhi/Sitapur. A serious case of alleged overseas job fraud has emerged from Uttar Pradesh’s Sitapur district, exposing how desperate job seekers are being trapped by fake promises of foreign employment. A 22-year-old man, who travelled to Oman in search of a better future, is now lodged in a jail there after being allegedly sent on a fraudulent visa by a recruitment agent who reportedly charged his family ₹1.15 lakh.

Hotel Job Promise Turns Into Arrest and Jail Abroad

According to the family, the young man belonged to a financially weaker background and used to work small jobs in his village. Hoping to improve their living conditions, he aspired to work abroad. During this period, he came in contact with a purported agent who assured him of a hotel job in Oman and claimed to handle all necessary documentation.

Trusting these assurances, the family paid the demanded amount, and the youth was sent overseas. Initially, everything appeared normal. After reaching Oman, he even secured work at a small hotel and maintained regular contact with his family, which reassured them that the process was legitimate.

However, the situation changed months later when local authorities conducted a routine verification. During the check, it was discovered that he was not holding a valid work visa. He was subsequently detained and later sent to jail, leaving his family in shock and distress.

₹1.15 Lakh Paid, Family Claims Visa Fraud by Recruitment Agent

The family claims they had no knowledge that the visa issued to their son was not valid for employment. The mother of the detained youth said that her son had gone abroad solely to support the family financially, but misplaced trust turned his dream into a nightmare.

The case has also brought attention to an alleged agent identified as Mohammad Zuber Ahmed Ansari, who is accused of collecting money from multiple individuals under the pretext of overseas employment and sending them abroad using forged documentation. A case has been registered, and the police have initiated an investigation under charges of cheating and forgery.

Police Suspect Organised Overseas Job Scam Network

Preliminary findings suggest that the case may not be isolated. Investigators suspect the involvement of a wider organised network engaged in illegal overseas recruitment practices. Agencies are now examining bank transactions, digital communication records, and financial trails linked to the accused.

Cybercrime and social policy analysts also point out that, while this case is not directly a cyber fraud case, digital payment systems, online communication channels, and social media platforms have made it easier for such fraudulent recruitment networks to operate and expand their reach.

Experts Warn Job Seekers to Verify Agents Before Paying Money

Experts say such incidents are increasingly common due to a lack of awareness among job seekers and the urgent need for employment opportunities. Many individuals fall prey to unscrupulous agents who fail to verify credentials or official licensing, resulting in severe consequences.

The family, meanwhile, is facing severe financial strain and emotional distress. They have appealed to authorities for assistance in securing the safe return of their son. The incident has also triggered concern in the local village, where residents are now more cautious about overseas job offers and verification of recruitment agents.

This case once again highlights how overseas employment scams continue to exploit vulnerable individuals by offering false hopes of better opportunities abroad. Authorities stress that verifying recruitment agencies, ensuring proper documentation, and obtaining official approval are essential before making any financial commitments.

The investigation is ongoing, and officials believe that more individuals and connections linked to this suspected network may soon come to light.
