In one of the largest cybercrime crackdowns in Rajasthan, the state police have arrested 37 alleged cyber fraudsters from the Deeg district. The accused were found to be running elaborate scams under the guise of selling sexual enhancement medicines and cattle online. The coordinated two-day operation, code-named ‘Vajra Prahar’, was carried out in multiple police station areas, including Brij Nagar, Sikri, Jaluki, Pahadi, Kaithwada, Jurhara, and Gopalgarh.
Fake Online Ads Used to Lure Victims
According to police officials, the accused posted fake advertisements on social media platforms, promising products such as sexual performance-enhancing drugs or high-yield cattle at discounted prices. Once potential buyers responded, the fraudsters demanded advance payments under various pretexts — initially for courier charges and later for additional fees such as insurance or transport costs. Victims often ended up losing up to ₹50,000 before realising they had been duped.
Sex Extortion Racket Also Busted
Investigators also uncovered a parallel sextortion racket operated by the same network. Using fake social media profiles, the fraudsters allegedly sent friend requests to unsuspecting users and engaged them in video calls, during which they displayed obscene content and recorded the sessions. The accused then threatened to release the videos online unless the victims paid large sums of money. In several cases, they also impersonated police officers to intimidate victims into transferring money.
Large Cache of Devices and SIM Cards Seized
During the raids, police recovered 44 mobile phones, 54 SIM cards, three motorcycles, and an ATM card. Officials said the seized items were used to carry out fraudulent transactions and to conceal the accused’s identities. “The operation marks one of the most extensive actions against cyber fraud networks in Rajasthan,” a senior officer stated, adding that forensic analysis of the seized devices is underway.
Over 300 Cyber Fraud Arrests in Three Months
Deeg Superintendent of Police Om Prakash Meena, who led the operation, described the arrests as part of a sustained campaign to dismantle organised cybercrime syndicates in the region. He revealed that over the past three months, Deeg Police have arrested more than 300 cyber fraudsters involved in various online scams. Authorities believe that the latest operation could lead to the exposure of additional interlinked modules operating across state lines.
Growing Cybercrime Challenge in Rural Rajasthan
Officials noted that rural districts like Deeg have emerged as hubs for organised cyber fraud, often exploiting weak digital literacy and gaps in inter-state coordination. Police said continuous monitoring, inter-agency cooperation, and public awareness are crucial to curb the rise in such cases.
