Meerut | December 7, 2025:    The Uttar Pradesh Police has once again found itself in the dock this time over an incident that has shaken public faith in law enforcement. A shocking CCTV footage from Meerut’s Lohiyanagar area shows uniformed police personnel dumping an unidentified man’s body outside a stationery shop in the dead of night, apparently to avoid official responsibility.

The disturbing visuals now viral on social media have sparked outrage across the city, with citizens calling it “a disgraceful reflection of police insensitivity and institutional rot.”

Shopkeepers Stunned as CCTV Exposes the ‘Men in Uniform’

Early Friday morning, shopkeepers in Kazipur locality of Lohiyanagar were horrified to find a young man’s body lying near their shutters. Stationery shop owner told,

“When I opened my shop, I saw the body right at the doorstep. We immediately alerted the police, but when we checked our CCTV footage, we were shocked it clearly showed policemen dropping the body there.”

The footage, timestamped around 1:40 a.m., shows two uniformed constables and a home guard unloading a corpse from a police vehicle and leaving it on the pavement before driving away.

Swift Action: Two Suspended, One Dismissed

Reacting to the viral clip, Meerut SSP took prompt disciplinary action suspending L-Block outpost in-charge Jitendra Kumar and constable Rajesh, and terminating home guard Rohtash’s services. Calling the act “inhuman and inexcusable,” Tada confirmed that an internal inquiry has been ordered under SP City, and efforts are underway to identify the deceased youth.

“This behaviour violates every principle of duty and humanity expected from a police officer,” he added.

To Dodge Paperwork, Cops ‘Shifted’ the Body Elsewhere

According to preliminary investigation, the unidentified body was first found under the Nauchanadi police jurisdiction. To avoid the post-mortem process and procedural responsibilities, the on-duty personnel allegedly decided to “transfer” the body to another jurisdiction dumping it under the Lohiyanagar police station limits to escape administrative involvement.

Public Fury: “Not Just a Body, It’s the Death of Humanity”

The video triggered a storm online. Hashtags like #MeerutPolice and #UPCopShame dominated X (formerly Twitter) within hours.

One user wrote, “When the police treat human remains as an inconvenience, what hope is left for justice?”

Political leaders from opposition parties also joined in the criticism, saying that the incident “exposes the hollowness of Uttar Pradesh’s law-and-order claims.”

Moral and Institutional Fallout

The Uttar Pradesh Police headquarters termed the act a “grave ethical violation”, saying it tarnishes the image of the entire force. A retired DGP commented,

“This is not a case of indiscipline alone it reflects a mindset problem. Some personnel see their job as an inconvenience, not a service. The system needs empathy training, not just punishment.”

CM Yogi Seeks Report, DGP Issues Statewide Directives

Following the uproar, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath sought a detailed report from the Meerut administration, calling the incident “unacceptable and deeply troubling.” The CM’s office assured that strict disciplinary action would be taken against all involved.

Meanwhile, the DGP Headquarters issued instructions to all SSPs across the state, directing immediate suspension of any personnel found shirking post-mortem or procedural duties in future.

Beyond Punishment: A Call for Ethical Policing

Experts believe this incident reflects not just negligence but a deeper erosion of moral accountability in policing. Criminal justice scholars argue that systemic reform including better supervision, sensitivity training, and ethical accountability mechanisms is crucial to restore public trust. As one senior analyst put it:

“When duty becomes drudgery and compassion is lost, even a uniform loses its meaning. Meerut’s footage is not just a scandal it’s a mirror to the moral decay within the system.”
