Fake Challan APK Linked to Fraud

The fraud reportedly began when the officer received a fake RTA challan APK file. Details regarding how the file was delivered were not specified, but authorities believe it played a role in facilitating the unauthorised access to the victim’s financial information.

The case highlights the continued use of malicious APK files by cybercriminals who impersonate official services in an attempt to deceive users into installing harmful software on their mobile devices.

Unauthorised Transactions Detected

According to the report, the officer noticed multiple alerts on his phone on June 8. Upon checking his bank account, he discovered unauthorised transactions and realised that nearly ₹50,000 had been withdrawn.

The victim subsequently reported the matter to the National Cybercrime Helpline by calling 1930. Following the complaint, cybercrime police registered a case and initiated an investigation into the fraudulent transactions.

Police Issue Public Advisory

Officials have urged members of the public to remain cautious when receiving links or files claiming to be related to traffic challans or government services.

Authorities specifically advised people not to download APK files or click on suspicious links received through digital platforms. Investigators are continuing to examine the circumstances surrounding the fraud while tracing those responsible for the incident.
