Honoring Women in Cyberspace 2025: Future Crime Research Foundation Celebrates Women Pioneers in Cybersecurity and Digital Forensics

NEW DELHI: On the occasion of International Women’s Day, the Future Crime Research Foundation (FCRF) celebrated the remarkable achievements of women in cybersecurity, digital forensics, law enforcement, technology, and innovation. The foundation received numerous nominations for its Honoring Women in Cyberspace 2025 initiative, highlighting the extraordinary contributions of women who have broken barriers and set new benchmarks in these fields.
From seasoned professionals to emerging leaders, these women have not only excelled in their respective domains but have also inspired countless others to pursue careers in cybersecurity and technology. Here’s a closer look at some of the outstanding nominees:

Shikha Goel, IPS
Shikha Goel, IPS, DGP CID, Women Safety Wing, Director TG Cyber Security Bureau & TG FSL, has been at the forefront of cybercrime prevention, digital forensics, and cybersecurity policy enforcement. With a distinguished career in policing for almost 30 years, she has spearheaded initiatives to combat online fraud, cyber threats, and financial crimes.
Her leadership extends beyond cyber enforcement—having secured VIPs, including U.S. President Bill Clinton, and supervised critical security operations in metro systems and sensitive installations across India. A champion of citizen-centric policing, she continues to drive innovation in digital security and law enforcement modernization.

KGV Saritha, IPS
K.G.V. Saritha, an IPS officer, currently serves as Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), Vijayawada. With extensive experience in cybercrime investigation, she previously held the position of Superintendent of Police (SP), Women Protection Cell (WPC), CID, where she played a pivotal role in handling cyber-enabled crimes against women and children. Her efforts in monitoring Child Sexual Abuse Material (CSAM) cases and streamlining complaint redressal through the National Cybercrime Reporting Portal (NCRP) have been commendable. She has also worked on enhancing law enforcement training, tackling financial frauds, and leading high-profile investigations, ensuring justice and public safety in the digital age.
PD Nitya, a 2016 batch IPS officer, is currently serving as the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) in Pulwama, Jammu & Kashmir. Before this, she was posted as SSP Leh, Ladakh, where she played a crucial role in uncovering and resolving the Kendriya Vidyalaya (KV) teachers’ recruitment online examination scam. Under her leadership, the team successfully exposed the fraudulent methods used by culprits to manipulate the exam in favor of select candidates.
In Pulwama, her efforts have been instrumental in the establishment of the Cyber Crime Unit Cell in April 2024. With a dedicated and well-trained team, this unit has significantly contributed to recovering money lost to online scammers. The unit has provided substantial relief to the general public by streamlining the process of complaint registration and ensuring swift redressal of cyber fraud cases, reinforcing trust in law enforcement.
Tulika Pandey is a Senior Director at the Ministry of Electronics & Information Technology, with 33 years of experience in Electronics and Communication. A pioneer in India’s Internet Governance initiatives, she played a key role in shaping policies for the National Internet Exchange, Domain Name Registry, and Internationalized Domain Names. Her expertise spans cybersecurity R&D, IoT, and network communications. She has authored research papers and holds multiple certifications from prestigious institutions worldwide. A member of various technical advisory boards, she is recognized as one of India’s top 20 influential Cyber Warriors, contributing significantly to national cybersecurity advancements.
Dr. Lavina Sinha, a 2017-batch IPS officer, currently serves as the Deputy Commissioner of Police (Cyber Crime) in Ahmedabad City. Transitioning from a medical background, she secured an All-India Rank of 183 in the 2016 UPSC exams. As DCP of Cyber Crime, Dr. Sinha has been instrumental in addressing complex cyber fraud cases, including a notable incident where a senior citizen was defrauded of ₹79 lakh through a sophisticated scam. Her leadership in such high-profile investigations underscores her commitment to enhancing digital safety and combating cyber threats in the region.
NS Nappinai, Senior Advocate, Supreme Court of India and Bombay High Court, is a pioneering cyber law expert with 30 years of experience. A leading litigator, policy advisor, and author, she has contributed extensively to constitutional, cybercrime, criminal, IPR, and corporate laws. She serves as Honorary Advisor to Tamil Nadu e-Governance Agency (TNeGA) and Advisor to Maharashtra Cyber Police, training judiciary, law enforcement, and intelligence agencies in cyber laws and electronic evidence.
She is the founder of Cyber Saathi, a unique initiative dedicated to cyber safety, online child protection, and digital literacy. Through Cyber Saathi’s “Be A Cyber Saathi” program, she empowers children, teachers, and parents as peer mentors in cybercrime prevention. As Amicus Curiae in Prajwala v. UOI, she played a key role in shaping India’s legal response to cybercrimes and digital safety. A Chevening Fellow and Stanford Fellow, she has advised Parliamentary Committees and the Ministry of Finance on IT Act amendments, cryptocurrency, and national cybersecurity policies. Dr. Karnnika Seth
Dr. Karnnika A. Seth is a globally recognized cyber law expert, author, and advocate with extensive contributions to digital policy, cyber forensics, and online safety. As a leading law enforcement officer, she has played a crucial role in investigating financial frauds, cyber harassment, and digital forensics cases, safeguarding citizens from online threats. As an Honorary Advisor to the UN, she represents India in the DPG Alliance and has advised Rajya Sabha Committees on cyber laws, data protection, and online safety. A distinguished cyber forensics expert, she has played a pivotal role in developing more than 10 indigenous cyber forensic tools, which have been deployed across various Law Enforcement Agencies (LEAs) nationwide, including NIA, IB, and FSLs, with over 3,500 copies distributed.

Dr. Manisha J. Nene
Dr. Manisha J. Nene is the Director of the School of Computer Engineering & Mathematical Sciences at the Defence Institute of Advanced Technology (DIAT), DRDO, specializing in Cybersecurity, AI, and Quantum Computing. With over 15 years of experience, she has led research in secure cyber-physical systems, fairness in AI, and quantum algorithms. As Head of the CSE Department, she has contributed significantly to defense technology and education. A Ph.D. holder from DIAT, she has authored numerous research papers and mentored scholars, driving innovation in cybersecurity and AI applications for national security and advanced computing.
Dr. N. Kala is a distinguished expert in Cyber Forensics, with nearly 35 years of experience. A former Director of the Centre for Cyber Forensics and Information Security at the University of Madras, she holds multiple qualifications in forensic science, cyber forensics, ethical hacking, and AI. She has published 33 research papers in national and international journals and has organized and participated in 175 workshops and seminars. Her extensive contributions to cybersecurity research, digital forensics, and education have made a significant impact in the field. Dr. Kala continues to advance knowledge and innovation in cyber forensics.
Wg Cdr Sonika (Retd) is a cybersecurity expert with over 14 years of service in the Indian Air Force and now serves as CTO & CISO at Scytale Alpha Pvt Ltd. She spearheads Quantum Secure Communication, fortifying national security against emerging cyber threats. Under her leadership, indigenous solutions like the Quantum Random Number Generator (QRNG) have been successfully deployed for the Armed Forces and critical government agencies. Dr. Surbhi Mathur is a Senior Assistant Professor at the School of Forensic Science, National Forensic Sciences University, with a UGC-JRF and a doctorate in Forensic Voice Examination. Specializing in Forensic Audio-Video Examination and Multimedia Forensics, she has 12 years of teaching and research experience, guiding 40+ master dissertations and supervising 2 PhD scholars. She trains police officers, judicial magistrates, and CBI officials across multiple countries. With 20+ research publications, she has received prestigious awards, including the Young Researcher Award and Research Excellence Award. Priya Jyoti, Senior DySP, currently serving as DySP (Cyber Crime) in Nawada, Bihar, has been actively combating cybercrime since joining on June 23, 2023. Nawada, particularly Warisaliganj, is a known hotspot for cybercriminal activities. Despite a six-month CCL period during her tenure, she has led rigorous investigations and raids using Pratibimb Portal and intelligence inputs. Under her leadership, 66 cyber criminals were jailed in 2023, 115 in 2024, and 27 by January 28, 2025. Identified frauds include online loan scams, fake job scams, digital arrests, investment frauds, and unauthorized AePS withdrawals using artificial fingerprints, significantly disrupting cybercriminal networks.
Reeta Yadav served as the Station House Officer (SHO) at Gautam Buddh Nagar Cyber Crime Police Station for six years and is currently posted at Agra Cyber Crime. She and her team arrested several organized cyber fraud gangs, including international criminals. These fraudsters posed as foreigners on social media, luring Indian citizens into scams by promising marriage or business opportunities. They faked customs detentions and extorted money as “fees” from victims. Her team also dismantled gangs running fake job and stock market scams, converting money into cryptocurrency and transferring it abroad. She played a crucial role in exposing cyber fraud networks across India.
Rebecca Perry is the Director of Strategic Partnerships at Exterro, with 30+ years of experience in cyber risk advisory, data privacy, and compliance. She has worked closely with legal, IT, compliance, and privacy professionals, advising on information governance, data mapping, data minimization, records retention, and third-party diligence.
