Fake Job In Canada: Nigerian National held For Cheating School Teacher Of Rs 4 Lakh
MADURAI: A 35-year-old Nigerian national was arrested by Dindigul cybercrime police on charges of defrauding a private school teacher of Rs 4 lakh by promising him a job in Canada.
The complainant, M Venkatachalapathy (45), of Pallapatti in Dindigul, was working as a teacher at a private school in Vellore. He left Vellore and returned to his hometown due to the pandemic and subsequent lockdown. He met the accused, a man named Uchenna Christian, on Facebook. According to reports, Uchenna promised Venkatachalapathy a job in Canada.
He allegedly demanded Rs 4 lakh in expenses for making arrangements, including a passport, which Venkatachalapathy paid.
However, when he began demanding more money, Venkatachalapathy became suspicious and filed a complaint with the Dindigul cybercrime police in March. The police traced Uchenna’s whereabouts using his social media account, mobile number, and bank transaction details and discovered that he is currently residing in Perundurai in Erode district.
On Saturday, a team of officials arrested him and remanded him in judicial custody on Sunday. Police will now take his custody to ascertain the number of people he cheated and the amount of money he has made. Police are also trying to identify his accomplice in India.
