Police have arrested an accused allegedly involved in a cyber fraud operation targeting people across the country through cryptocurrency investment schemes, attractive job offers and work-from-home opportunities.

The investigation has identified suspicious transactions worth around ₹86.35 lakh through two bank accounts linked to the accused. According to police, money allegedly obtained through cyber fraud was deposited into these accounts and then quickly transferred to several other accounts.

Investigators suspect that routing the money through multiple bank accounts was intended to make it more difficult to trace its original source and final beneficiaries.

Two Bank Accounts Under Investigation

According to the investigation, the case centres on two bank accounts opened in 2025 at the State Bank of India branch located on the campus of Kameshwar Singh Darbhanga Sanskrit University.

The accused allegedly opened the accounts on January 3 and May 23, 2025. One was a savings account and the other a current account.

Both accounts recorded substantial financial activity within a relatively short period.

₹86.35 Lakh Transactions Detected

Police found that around ₹49 lakh was transacted through the first account between January 3 and October 13, 2025.

The second account recorded transactions of approximately ₹37.55 lakh between August 13 and September 2.

Together, the two accounts showed suspicious transactions amounting to around ₹86.35 lakh.

Investigators suspect that cyber fraud proceeds were routed into these accounts before being transferred to several other bank accounts.

10 Cyber Fraud Complaints Linked to Accounts

The investigation revealed that 10 cyber fraud complaints had been registered in different states in connection with the two bank accounts.

The complaints allegedly involved victims being lured through promises of high cryptocurrency investment returns, attractive employment opportunities and work-from-home earnings.

Police are examining how each complaint is connected to the transactions recorded in the suspected accounts.

Patna Cyber Unit Joins Investigation

Considering the seriousness of the case, a team from the Cyber Crime Special Unit in Patna was also involved in examining the suspicious accounts.

Investigators are analysing where the money came from and where it was subsequently transferred.

Police are also trying to establish whether funds entered the accounts directly from victims or reached them after passing through multiple layers of transactions.

Accused Questioned Over Transactions

The accused was called for questioning about the large financial transactions recorded in the two bank accounts.

Police asked him to provide documents explaining the source of the money and the transactions.

According to investigators, he failed to provide a satisfactory explanation or sufficient documentary evidence for transactions involving lakhs of rupees.

Police subsequently seized two mobile phones and arrested him.

Mobile Phones and Transaction Trails Examined

A case has been registered at Darbhanga Cyber Police Station under Case No. 60/26.

Investigators are examining digital data stored on the two seized mobile phones, including messages, contacts, banking-related activities and other potential evidence.

The backward and forward transaction trails of the bank accounts are also being analysed to determine how the allegedly fraudulent funds moved through the banking system.

Search for Other Suspects Continues

Police are trying to identify the accounts that subsequently received the suspicious funds and the people operating them.

Investigators are also examining whether the arrested accused merely provided bank accounts or was actively involved in the wider cyber fraud operation.

The possible involvement of other members of an interstate cyber fraud network is under investigation, and police teams are conducting raids to trace additional suspects.
